Kyle, it's funny how you don't even own a V6 Thirdgen, and say they're not worth it, yet still take the time to hang out at this board... I guess you need to make yourself feel bigger by annoying us... maybe it's to make up for a lack of size in another area....

hehehehehahahahahah that was funny. i am going to be more annoying cause i don't have a v6 either i have an IROC. but kyle, i find it hard to believe a 3.1 even a slightly beefed one can even look at a mustang GT. i mean come on, keeping up till 65!? i think not. i think that is bull. mustangs are pieces of crap but not so crappy that a v6 will walk all over them. can anyone prove me wrong? i welcome a verbal asswhoopin if i deserve it.

You do deserve it cause lots of guys here have done it. And on a personal note, will you V8's strokes go somewhere else? The reason we requested and got this board is so we wouldn't have to put up with your freuidian bull$hit mentality about compensating with a big engine.
As for the question, 3.1 Firebird got his in the high 15's (or was it 14's?), but that was with some heavy modding. My 2.8 with some mods ran a 17.6 on a dying tranny and no launch whatsoever (first time at the track), so figure a high 16 for a stock 3.1 in good shape.

well, think what you want about my car or about me, but i was right, there is no way a 3.1 car stands a snowmans chance in hell against a v8 mustang. i'm not against v6s at all, i think it is cool u guys are taking the route less traveled by building an "underdog". i do however, get tired of all the bullcrap claims by some of the v6ers on this board. their claims of running with, and beating v8 cars are ludicrous. now i know there are some pretty quick guys here, but there also some little teenage kids here that think the v6 camaro that dad bought them are the baddest thing ever built. (i can say that cause i'm only 19 and my IROC is MINE) and that is simply not true. the v8 guys do it too and i get tired of all the bogus speed claims.

Ok i have to jump in..... A BONE stock 3.1 in a firebird will do about 17.1 in the 1/4 and a 9.7 to 9.9 in the 0 to 60mph department... As for you V8 guys.... there ARE PLENTY of V6's that will walk over a 13.5 second runner, granted they are turbo'ed, blown or feed silly gas but none the less they take the V8's. A modded 3.1L in a firebird WILL/HAS taken a 15.5 stock mustang (1988 Mustang 5.0LX) Infact its not hard to do. A 3.1L HAS kept up to a 4.6L Mustang to about 45 to 60, personally i have kept upto one till 45 as my car feel off after that. A 1991 3.1L Firebird weighs in at 3120 pounds, mine weighed in alil heavier, 3170's if i recall correctly, they pound/power for pound power equal out to a 5.0 firebird with 190hp, get a 1/4 computer and do the weighs and REAR wheel HP for both... there DAMN close... I also know as i kept up to stock 5.0's with auto's till about 50 to 60. The problem being the lil engines do not have the torque so they fall off faster. But it is COMMON to see it. Again i know as i have embarrassed more then my share of V8'er that thought they were cool. I also have raced since i was 16 (i am 32 now) and know how to launch and drive.
I do not see ANYONE V6'ers on here saying that they are that fast or they whooped a V8 so bad it was funny. In fact the rare times we do see it we laugh and say "yeah ok"... Generally its a race to about 45 to 60, we are lighter by 100 to 300 pounds, our engines spool faster (less weight to spin) they handle off the factory floor better and while theres not a huge market for after market parts for them a 3.1L can be built to make 245HP streetable horsepower with about 235 ft/lbs torque. That will put a 91 firebird into the 14's by the way... With a 90 shot you are now embarassing the 1999 Firebirds that run 13.5 to 13.9... BTW i got a friend with a SLP firebird and it runs 13.6 it makes an estimated 320hp... We sure as hell can't compete with a modded V8 but then again we are in a CLASS CALLED V6.... BTW.... i got a friend with a 3.1L that ran in the 14's on 3 cylinders, since getting the problem fixed he hasn't run track. He's topped it at 160mph and i am VERY sure i could get ya a run with him as he LOVES to whoop V8's.... goto www.turboz24.com and take a look :P he's the one that was helping me with my 3.1L. Even tho i don't have my firebird any longer and can't prove it, the last time i ran her after completing the upper and middle intakes, the TB, the fuel pressure, underdrive pullies, a holly fuel management system, jet chip, shift kit, B&M shifter, 1.52 roller rockers and 3 stickers worth 50hp EACH i ran a best of 15.8 in a stop watched 1/4 that was measured with a GPS with 20 foot error recieved at the time the actual stop watch time recorded was 15.6 and i figure there was a reaction error as i was driving, feathering the gas and timing. The new ower Gtect'ed it and it ran a 15.9, he still needs to put the heads that i had 300 dollars in port work done on, a crane cam, a custom Y pipe, a new 3.1L block thats bored 1mm, forged 1964 chevy rods that were sized down, he needs pistons. Think he might break into the high 14's?????? i think he will and a 90 shot will get him ATLEAST low 14's. Incase what i am saying hasn't stuck go find the fiero racers that run 270HP in there 2.8Ls ---- THATS COMMON...... Anyways, sorry guys i had to go off, I am so sick and tired of seeing crap about the V6...I did 1 year of research to see what a 3.1L could do, spent 3k in parts and am getting to see the product even after selling it.... First thing i plan on doing with the owner of my old car is to go SMOKE a Z28 or a 5.0 mustang.... Lets see there face then... But if that day never comes? well i take the knowledge of knowing while the 3.1L isn't the fastest out there, it has atleast 100 horses waiting to be unleashed... and if not... well then crane, paw, summit and a host of other performance people lied to me.... the same people that sell the V8 gear to the few that trash on our poor lil POS that can't break 65mph downhill in a hurricane ----- LMAO.... No good way to end this email other then saying this.... Party on V6'ers

OK my comments were out of line, but I had to. I mean everyone talks about how fast their cars are and never respond with any times. Typical of the V6er that never hits the track but alwyas seems to win on the road. Something I like to call the Rice Syndrome.
In all fairness I would gladly help anyone with a V6 to make their car faster until they start saying "Yea I out ran a Mustang GT today" then Im like look... you are sadly mistaken. Escort GT doesn;t Equal Mustang GT. Even on that note were not talking mild V8s in the 5.0s they are quite potent. ANd for Escorts, beware of the moded GTs because some of the have the same sytem as a V-tec with a larger displacement. Those who mod them can get them into the 15 easily. I know I have one that runs a 15.5 on a normal day. Now that was a lot of head work and other port matching and everything. I still don't outrun Mustang GTs or LX 5.0s in my Escort. Its called a reality check.
No for not thinking a V6 f-bodys not worth it. Where the Hell did I say that? I mean yea if you want serious speed the only V6 doing that is a 3.8L. Anyone want to argue with that?????? Though a 2.8 or a 3.1 F-body can be a really nice car. Just isn't going to out run me

Now look there is no reason to get personal about things. As far as your comments towar d me, well I was being sarcastic, but you didn't pick up on that. I have seen in many post where they claim to keep up with this car and that car. SO I had to put it in here.

Look everyone knows that any engine can make power, but I feel Sorry for you. Did you really spend $3000 to get into a 15.5??? I didn't spen that much on my Escort to get it into the 15's with a 1.8L DOHC 4cyl. For $2000 I am running 13.9 N/A on 305 Heads in my Trans AM. That is why you dont build these V6's when you are getting serious. Drop the V8 in and save some money. As far as the Fieros go, well they dont have many optons for upgrading the engine unless they want to pay BIG $$$$$$$$$.
