Weird Problem, Step inside.
Ok, when I got my car back from the body shop, I accidentally put 87 octane gas in it, and it felt like it ran great. For some reason, it was givin me hella-power (for my car). So I put some 92 in this time like I'm supposed to (runnin a chip) and it feels sluggish. Any theories on why this is goin on? Also, what does detonation sound/feel like because I heard that if you run low grade with advanced timing, you can have it. I need every bit of power I can get. I'm in a group of F-bodies from my region, and I'm the slowest.
PSSS...I know it's off topic, but I figured I'd share. This guy drivin a bone stock 99 Z28 in the group had been talkin smack to our VP an his 00 WS6 Ram Air Trans Am. Well, we had a lil showdown, and at about 135 the Trans Am smoked em by about 3 cars. What's funny is the SS behind the Z almost even passed him. I got an overhead shot on camera of the winner comin underneath a bridge. Hope it turns out.

Detonation sounds like a rattle... the effect is a hammer striking your piston, as the piston rises upward.
You might've gotten "bad" 92-octane gas with a lot of water in it, or maybe the computer tried to re-learn itself after going from 87 octane to 92? Not sure!

in your instance the gas should have had no true difference.
detonation really sounds bad
test easy
find long steep hill
go up in over drive, give car slight gentle & increase gas pedal try to stay in od.
if sounds ok no detonation
if ya hear rattles of marbles in empty coffee can you got that problem.
you should have heard my detonation when i killed my original engine
i got hole size of silver dollar in the #1 piston
saved as trophy of stupidity!

When I had the 89, it wouldn't run on anything but 89 octane (that sounds funny
). I tried putting 91 and some OB in it, but it was really hesitant, sluggish, and ran bad. Tried 87, and it did the same thing. It always had 89 put in it (before I got it), but I don't see how a car can adapt to one specific octane (unless it has something to do with the computer??).
Oh, might be picking up another Camaro FINALLY!!!!! 89 RS V6, T5.......
