Tranny mount (again)

D'oh. I broke another tranny mount so it looks like I'm going to go with the Energy Suspension one... but Summit doesn't carry it any more. Anyone know of a place that sells them? The part number is 3-1108.

Edit: I found some at WrenchHead.com for 29.99. This seems expensive to me. What did you guys pay?

That's about right. I paid that for the one for my Corvette.
I recently put in new rubber one for $10, tho. Hope it still works right!

Alex,

How do you keep breaking your tranny mounts??

I broke one and it was because of an accidental neutral drop....

I don't know! Too much horsepower I guess I drive the car too hard sometimes, but I've never done a neutral drop. I have done brakestands though, the good ol' one wheel burnout.

#1. I always "accidentally" nuetral drop the Cougar, sometimes rolling about 5-10mph... if I rev it up to about 5K I can usually get 6 ft of rubber. Both wheels. I know it's not good for it, but it's always had tranny problems, but it just won't die...

#2. Maybe that's what's wrong with the damn thing. It clunks really hard when I'm rolling, foot off the gas, then snap the gas really quick... it clunks like something's loose. It's also got IRS though, so do you think it's the u-joints going too? I know this is a Camaro & Firebird board, but the Cougar's a V6 too! What do you guys think it is?

Yeah, I went thru two trans mounts in 3 years before getting the ES one. Now it's 4 years later and no problems! Did Summit say why they don't carry it anymore? Weird.

Wait, your part number isn't 100% correct. Did you call, or use their website to check the price?

Energy Suspension puts a color code after all their part numbers. If you want a blue trans mount like I did, you need to look for Energy Suspension part # 3-1108B. In Summit lingo, that's ENS-3-1108B. I believe a black mount uses the suffix "G" for graphite, that's 3-1108G.

Either way, the Summit website still lists it for $20.95. Did you call them or check the site? (I'm curious as hell!)

Cool, just what I was looking for. That part number doesn't show up when you browse through the manufacturer's products. The only one I see is for Blazer applications.

I will definitely give them a call before I order it, thanks Tom.

I guess I'm just gonna have to crawl under there with a flashlight.... Maybe when I change the oil, which needed to be done 100 miles ago...

Anyone have any experience with solid tranny and engine mounts?

Be lucky yours are only 15-20 bucks..I have a 5 speed that helps with take off times and can do 65 in third gear and you'd be surprised the throttle response on those RPM's LOL ...Anyway I had the original tranny moount go out at 98k miles...GM only part guess the price?...$50...$60...try $156 and change.. I was flabergasted..not to mention pissed...I am in the process now of finding someone to make a custom cross bar so I can use the auto tranny mount..the hole space is the same so I hope it will work.

The solid mounts are for racing only.

Oh- and you can't use a solid trans mount with normal engine mounts. The engine will twist but the trans won't- and you'll crack the bellhousing.

Sure makes it easy to take the tranny out though! Normally, you run solid motor mounts and a normal trans mount on the street, because the all solid mount thing is just as damaging.

My 88 formula used to break one every couple of months, dunno why. When I switched to poly, my problem was solved. My 85 SE has never had a problem with it, so I guess it must be power related huh?

I know you have to use solid mounts on both tranny and engine at the same time, but has anyone done it? They might be for racing, but would they do anything bad to your car if used on the street? Since there is less drivetrain flex (no rubber to squish), wouldn't your cornering be a little better?

It's more design-related than power-related. I went thru 3 rubber trans mounts with my V6 before I got the polyurethane one.
