12.42 @111.25 - mostly stock, chip and K&N filter. I will be going to track after the breakin period once the car is put back together. New mods include head work, new exhaust, 40 lb injectors, TA-49 turbo and other stuff.

What do you think I should run? 11.50's @122?

Pete

I would have to imagine that I would run close to high 14's-low 15's with the few mods I have. and the 5 speed helps alot. I have a K&N, 1.6 rockers, cam, crank case evac system.
I can spin the rear wheels to 20 MPH and then hit second and spin for a few secs then chirp third. and this is not a clutch spin/dump. straight pedal to the floor.
I can get 0-45 in about 4 secs, holding 1st, hit 2 and holding sec till 50-60 dump 3rd and go to 75 then 4th and hit 90ish then top out and roll into 5th...And I do not relese the gas when shifting..helps a good acceleration jump/thrust.

I haven't looked at this yet, but I'm wondering if there is a way to run the belt without the alternator or power steering pulleys (and any other unnecessary ones) to reduce the drag on the system. Of course, you could only do that for a little while until the battery drains but for a run down the track it might be worth it.

Would it work, or be worth the trouble?

I was wondering about that too, it'd be kinda cool to do if you can. Take a look at your engine, and see if you can see a pattern that'll circle the water pump, crank and your belt tensioner without circling anything else. You'd also have to make sure they're rotating the right way too.

Hey, Camaro Hunter. Post a timeslip. I believe your car always FEELS faster than it really is anyways. Especially when you're either drunk, or using a watch as your stopwatch.

Alex, good idea, you might get an extra HP or two. You named the two biggest offenders... do you have the serpentine belt system? You'd need to run a shorter belt, and try to link it between the crank, idler, a/c (acts as an idler pulley when the a/c is off) pulley, and water pump.

If you have the V-belt (82-86) system, you'd just remove the belt driving the alternator, and remove the belt for the power steering. Leave the last belt (a/c) on to connect the crank to the water pump.

My best run lately? (sigh) 17.04 @ 77.9 mph. [edit] I forgot we were posting mods... here's my e-mail signature. And by the way, "SC" means "Sport Coupe", not supercharger.

Actually, if you pop your serpentine off at the line, and your engine is cold anyway, you've got like 15 minutes or so before you'll come bear overheating, I've heard a lot of the real competitive guys do this. Just ditch your belt before you run. Of course, to keep your engine cool enough, you'll have to like push it through the lanes or something...

Sorry ovrclck350 right now I only road race and I beat out the 8s every time(they can't seem to hold the RPMs that I can). But after a few more mods I will take my car to the strip to see what it can do. I am looking into fabbing my own haders and maybe making a single turbo header...I dunno And by the way I use my cdplayer as a time reference...LOL

And pulling the serp belt to get more HP is LUDICROUS It is totally pointless. You might(MIGHT) get 1 hp at the most. And running doem the battery even for that short a time is damaging. You do realize that the power steering and alt belt combined use maybe 5 percent drag on the belt right?.

Thanks for the info, Reno!

Companies like Moroso also make that electric water-pump drive system; that could probably be hooked up (and removed again) easily at the track. The last electric water pump I heard that was good enough for street use was the Meziere brands (over $300).

I don't think pulling the serpentine belt off is ridiculous; does that mean that installing underdrive pullies is also ludicrous? Pulling off the serpentine belt would give more power than putting on underdrive pullies, yet people do the pullies all the time- AND feel an improvement! It stands to reason that running without the belt at all would yield a greater improvement.

However, it wouldn't give an accurate "on the street" example of a 1/4 mile time. ---Of course, with everyone emptying their windshield fluid bottles, removing their spare tires, and ditching their stereos for a track run, who really does 100% represent an "on the street" time?

car craft did a test on cheap mods like that. when they ran without a belt they went slower cause the alternator wasn't charging and the ingnition voltage dropped.
