3.1 vs 3.8

ok, i've decided to finally ask this question since i'm sick and f'n tired of my friend braging that his 96 is faster than my 91, even though i know it is i'm not the one to admit it, i mean come on now...who does that? Anyways i'm wanting to know what mods i could use without going into porting, polishing, new cams, nos and expensive stuff like that to beat his @$$ and finally shut him up, he has a '96 camaro with a manual 3.8, the only mods he has is a SLP cold air intake with 2 k&n's and a flowmaster 80 series, everything else is stock, except he has 8.8 plug wires but that doesnt make a difference in a street drag does it? You can see by my sig what mods i have, far more than what he does, i can beat him off the line but i wanna blow his *** away, help me guys.

You ruled out just about everything. That 3.8 isn't something you're going to beat with cheap mods.. he's got at least 40 horses on you (probably more, I don't know the specs on the 96 v6). Requires cam/rockers/porting at least.. or NOS (but that would be cheating =P )

In search of new v8 engine & transmission, now contemplating t5 swap to get me out of this mess.
Misc Mods: Cut air box, '83 Firebird spoiler.
Performance Parts: MSD coil, Accel 8mm wires, SplitFire plugs, Gabriel hijackers.

My friend's stock 3.8 ran a 15.2 in the lane next to me at the track. I doubt you have a chance, unless he burns his clutch or has a mechanical error.

You wanna skip the heads, cam & Nitrous? Your only other alternative is 2 more cyl.
*ducks and runs*

No seriously, the 4th gen 3.8 has 200 hp. I'm afraid my Lo3 even with mods would probably get spanked by one of those 3.8's. Those are amazing engines and can take out even some older V8's. Sorry, but you don't stand a chance.

I just got a '97 Camaro. The 3.8 is a good motor. It feels almost as fast as my '89 TA. It's kind of weak in the low RPM's(compared to my TA),but pulls hard on top. The 3.8 is rated at 200 hp, and it feels like it has everyone of them! What a great street motor!

The only way for you to make a 3.1 run with or beat a 3.8 is do tear everything down and put every speed part you can think of into it. Your 0-60 is 10 flat, a little faster with your mods. His is 7.5. You got a LONG way to go...
