Bent Crank

I know that cast iron can't bend because of the yeild point is the break point and there is no plastic modulus. The reason I ask is because the engine is leaking fluid out of the rear main seal but that is not the only thing. There is fluid leaking out of the front seal on the transmission. I have replaced the trans before twice so I am sure that the seal in the pump is good. The modulus of elsaticity of cast iron is the area under the curve of force vs deformation. THis would mean that cast Iron can't bend without returning to it's original position. Could my Harmonic damper be bad? Do I even have a cast crank? Has this happened to anyone before?

Certainly do not rule out the seal on the harmonic balancer is bad.
ANY balancer can eventually go bad

I thought cast iron -could- bend! So you're saying the cast stuff would break instead of bend? I didn't know that.

As to fluid leaking from the front seal... how was the flange on the torque convertors? Could your TV cable be .. oh wait, '82.. that's the 200C three speed... doesn't that have a kickdown cable, and not a TV cable?

Cast Iron can bend. It just can't be permanently bent becasue then it would break
