3.1L v6 engine recipie

has anyone made a engine recipie with everything listed to make a 3.1L v6 drag car engine, i know some jeep guys use the straight 6 4.0L and there is a recipie to make peak performance without blowing the darn thing up.

Re: 3.1L v6 engine recipie

1 cup of motor oil, some plenum bolts, and a pcv valve. Stir for 5 minutes with a camshaft J/K The key to making these engines last with any mods is proper tuning providing that the engine you currently have is in perfect running condition and isn't loaded with miles. A turbo is probably your best bet on making power. These engines won't make a whole lot of power N/A but with a turbo and a good tune it's a different story. The engine shouldn't blow up but you'll be spending a lot replacing rear tires I plan on going turbo whenever I get another car to drive and make the camaro a weekend car. Also read the stickies there is a lot of very useful info if your wanting to mod your engine.

Re: 3.1L v6 engine recipie

thank for the info, but isn't there anyone here that has a built V6 motor that has been beefed up without a turbo kit on. i am talking about raw horepower, bored to the max, that type of thing, i think in my opinion a turbo is nothing but problems. and you have to build the bottom end of the motor to handle the boost.i am looking for the max horespower you can squeeze out of the motor without a turbo or supercharger.

Just the 3x00 head swap nets you about 40 horses, then of course just add bolt ons... cam, intake, exhaust, etc...

Re: 3.1L v6 engine recipie

If your boring the cylenders, your going to end up taking the bottom end out anyway... Especially if you're building an engine for drag racing.
It would be better to start with a 3.4 block since it's bored to the max already for you, not that the 3.1 is any slouch as far as old V6's go (be glad you dont have the 2.8).
Get the better heads, all the bolt ons (cam, headers, exhaust, intake, 1.6 rockers, UDP, etc), remove extra weight (AIR pump, AC, etc.) then add a turbo.

Re: 3.1L v6 engine recipie

just drop in a 3400 with a good cam and headers, or even a 3500 if you want even more power (but more work). You have to notch your K member but that takes like an hour to cut and re-weld.. the rest of it is basic swap stuff, little wiring and getting creative with hose routing.

i'm making right around 350 @ the crank all motor... and it's pretty fun on the street. This thing puts my old 355/TH400 Trans Am to shame.
