I think my v6 build up could beat some older 8's
I think my v6 build up could beat some older 8's
Im thinking if i get a 3.4 shortblock and put a cam in it some headers,port the intake and the heads i figure i can get about 230 hp from that.
3.4=160 hp
cam= about 15?
headers= about 15?
port intake and heads good= at least 20
FIPK=about 5 or 10
If you dont think this could run with SOME 8's please tell me what i could do!

230? I personally have to say dreaming....060 overbore, cam, 1.6 rockers, afpr, upgraded injectors, headers, fully ported heads (not just mild but fully) raise compression, free flowing intake and exhaust (intake fully ported all the way) then well talk.

That'll definately be able to run with and take some older 8's... a 2.8 or 3.1 can do that if it's in top running shape.

What you really need, is rear gears-3:73.
Start there, practice surprising the competion, then slip in the 3.4.
No one can tell!!

Yea some of the 350's from like 78 only had 160hp and would be pushing more weight than your V6. Though I think your guesses on HP are a little high. V6's do not respond to mods the way a V8 does. A cam will probably only net you about 10hp over the stock cam. Doing a full head job including decking to make more compression should net you about 15, the intake should give you about 5, then the other odds and ends may give you another 10. I would say a 3.4 is capable of making around 200hp with out forced induction. Remember the new 3.8 (231 cu.") is only making 200 so I doubt that you will be able to make much more than that because they are a much better design that a 3.4. Plus their exhaust manifolds are like headers.
Good luck though

230hp - dreaming? Hardly :P
A 3.1L running 9.1:1 compression, bored .030 over, ported and polished heads, matched intake, worked over TB with a good custom cam and chip WILL make 200 to 230hp...
A 12 valve OHC 3.4 with shaved heads, that has been race preped will go 230hp pretty easy. Side note... the fiero 2.8L racers make 270+ hp - commonly.....
BTW.... saw a interesting website..
www.bmwmovies.com
Anyways goto the bmw site and checkout some of the cars... You will notice the ones making about 200hp and 215 ft/tq... the cars weigh 3200 to 3500 pounds, they doing 0 to 60 in 6 to 7 seconds.... Afew are making it in 5.8.
Here to tell ya guys a 3.1L WILL make 225 to 245 hp and around 225 to 235 ft/tq -- add NOS and you are dipping into the high side of the 13's..... been there done that. The only way to do it is to try it and to make sure EVERYTHING you do works with (not against) everything else.
