How can I keep myself from WOT???
How can I keep myself from WOT???
Hi, I'm Kevin, and I have a problem...I crave WOT. Trouble is, gaz is at an all time high up here in the GWN, and the only way I can keep from bankrupting myself on gaz is keeping outta WOT. I'm considering putting a block of wood under the gas pedal, but is there any mechanical or electronic mod that can help me here? My last check, I was getting 30 miler per Canadian gallon, and that wasn't bad, I just want it better. And a way to keep my habit in check.

Yes, yes, self control, but lacking in that I am. Nor do I plan on learning the necessary skills in the near future. There's got to be some other way. Can anyone suggest anything??? I don't want to have to change the way I think and act, but if I must....

actually...try a wood block. When my brother first learned how to drive, my parents did that since he had a tendancy to drive 90mph on the street..it worked. looked funky but worked

On what grounds? I just reread the rules, and this is by no means in violation of any of them. It does not contain any information that can potentially harm and engine, at least not yet...it is technically centered, it is located in an appropriate forum, and it is not offensive to any groups of people, except perhaps for the rich speed demon pedal mashers out there. But they're not a visible minority. So heh. ;-) ;-)
Here's another opportunity...give a nice reply to this...Good luck in your 1000 post endeavors, dude! I suppose when trolls show up on the boards, you get a few good posts outta that....

Man, I'm getting a few more posts with this one! I told Overclck that if he wanted more messages on his counter, to reply to my message saying good luck. And then I pitched in the trolls comment. Good Night.

You could probably fashion a bracket onto your throttle body that would prevent the linkage from moving to WOT... like the idle adjustment screw, except in reverse.
You could also put a rev-limiter on the car, and set it for 3000 RPM...
Altho with all these ideas, what happens if you find yourself in a situation where you need WOT? Such as, you pull out onto a highway, and missed the SUV doing 90 MPH towards you- you know that thing wont' stop in time, so you slam on the gas- and go nowhere fast.

Very simple. Get a Vacuum Manifold Pressure Gauge installed in your ride.
You'll actually see what your foot does to gas & power on the road.
It will TEACH you have to drive, more economically.
I've been using them since 1978.
Actually learned about them back in 1963 (on Dad's 1963 Grand Prix with 421 Super Duty engine).
Go to the parts store and ask about them. Read what it does. It is a very simple solution. Tom has a very valid point as did Graeme, with the block of wood trick.
But Dan's was the correct answer.
The Vacuum Gauge is the teacher.
What does GWN stand for? Great White, North?

Here is an idea....buy yourself a heavy-duty spring.Connect it to you're throttle.Have it so you can get half throttle with minimal effort. But for full throttle you would need both feet and a cinder block strapped to the top of your shoes
Then if you still manage to get to full throttle...just imagine how strong your legs would be!

Thanks for the idea, Kevin, but I won't need all that help getting the pedal down...I ski race competitively in winter, and my legs are deadly strong. Ankles and the associated hardware included. I like the spring idea, though...perhaps I could pull a rear spring from a junkyard car and rig it up, though :-) Today, I actually tried driving moderately...blech!
