Now, that's an answer, I cannot give, until you pull both engines out and see what ya got.
HONEST!!
I visited many Chevy dealer ships to get "this gasket & that gasket" and go get this "hose & that hose".
DON'T RUSH!!
Take you time & plan it well. You do not want to do this again, only be able to turn the key & start it up everyday, dependable!
ENGINE SWAPS ARE NEVER THAT SIMPLE.
EACH JOB IS A CUSTOM JOB!
EACH AND EVERY JOB IS A CUSTOM JOB!
I thought I could do mine in one weekend!
Boy, was I wrong!

Hey, it may rain! That'll cut into your time frame, right!?!?!?
Cut yourself a very big break, and pull the engine out, this weekend and examine exactly what you will need to do.
Vacuum hoses, one complete day
Swapping intakes, 2 days
cleaning the fuel rail and swapping injectors, one day.....
on
and
on
and on
and on.....
Take your time, please.
Ask any questions, feel free to!
You'll only owe me Pizza!
NEW YORK HAS THE BEST PIZZA!
And how I miss it!!
PS CARE ABOUT EMISSIONS!!! The MORE the job is exactly how your current engine looks, the better it will perform in the short term and long run!
HONEST!!
Do it well & do it right. Be ****!
PS Check out Wicked88's 3.4 swap story about how one bad wire can ruin a great project!!

thanks to your words I decided to cancel the project! I thought it was a simple swap that would only take me two days . I cannot just keep the car without running for more than two days(those are my days off), I need a ride to get to work

Really sorry to have ruined your fun,
BUT, really pleased you thought it over.
WHEN it all falls together right, you will have such a blast in the end! I still do.

See if you can get a cheap ride for a month!

I finished my full instrument cluster dash, today.
Into the Firebird, shortly!

My project still lingers on, too!

v6-3.1, take a week off! My 2.8/2.8 took a weekend to pull the old and put the new in, and another two weekends to put the car back together. I bet if you could work straight for four days, you could do it. We were working outside, and besides the "working under a tarp when it rains" deal, we always had to clean up when we were done, and set back up when we started again.

You know what you could do? Get the top end off a junkyard 2.8 - intake manifold, upper & lower plenum, throttle body, sensors, etc, and put it all on the 3.4. Then when it's swap time, you just have to swap the motors, and not move parts over. Of course it'll cost more since you'll have double the parts...

BUT then you sell the left over stuff on eBay, as I did!
GREAT IDEA TOM!

What about that "knocking" noise?

Hey Karl, I'm finally ready for the swap($$$), one question though. Do I use the 2.8 oilpan or is it the same to leave the 3.4 pan on? I already have the engine but this mechanic guy mentioned something about the oilpan the other day and I'm a bit confused.

Here is the sure thing answer.
Swap the ORIGINAL in your car, engine oil pan (the 2.8) onto the 3.4 block.
IN THE PROCESS OF DOING THAT, you MUST also USE the 2.8 timng chain cover and teh 2.8 water pump.
This also guarantees the ability to match up and fit the original 2.8 mounting bracketry (alternator, power steering pump, ac).
NOW,
Sgt Panther, did this 2.8 3.4 swap, also.
IN his instance, he was able to make fit and use, the swapped 3.4 engine oil pan, timing chain, water pump, as is.
He did NOT change the 3.4 pan.
He made it work.
By drilling an extra "hole".
Get a hold of Sgt. panther for his specific details.
I hope this is clear.
If ya swap oil pans, you need to match everything else.
If not, it seems it can fit, but, I didn't do it that way.
Keep at it.
The details are the way to make this swap go so smoothly.
Make sure you have all gaskets, on hand before the swap.
Including a small block chevy distributor gasket, for the 3.4 distributor swap.
Ask any questions.
Once you start, alot will fall into place. Honest.
Have fun!!
Make sure you have old tires to play with, you've earned it!
Oh, make it 100% exactly like it started with.
Easiest way to make sure it works right and problem solve.
Rebuild distributor, very important, too.
