Gas Mileage Improvement Cost

What would be the best mods to get for gas mileage improvement. With gallons costing over $2 in this hellhole valley, I need the best mileage I can get. Right now I'm getting about 12-16 mpg. How much will the mods cost, and how much will my mileage improve. If I can figure it out mathematically, I can probably get my parents to pay for the mods. hehe thanks guys, and I live within 5 miles from Cruiser's but I work every Friday, except this one so I'll see you guys there maybe.

Do a major tuneup. The information is covered here: https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/...ML/000545.html

Also get a vacuum manifold gauge to see the results of a heavy foot on the gas, compared to a lighter foot on the gas.
Your lousy milage is all valley driving and your effort to get out of the hole first.
Lighten up on the gas pedal, pretend there is an egg, there.
STARTING FROM THE LIGHTS is the BIGGEST waste of the gas. I get about the same, also in town and the freeways. I do get MUCH better, tho. But starting from the lights, stop & go on the freeways, etc, you don't want to let that other person in front of ya, all contribute, real big time, too.
Changing your driving habits will get ya about 2 extra MPG, as your car is right now.
Yea, the Valley can be one hot hellhole. Was in the yards at 100 degrees on Tues.

I -hate- coming to a stop lately... I'll slow way down, and just keep rolling until the people in front of me move- I bet I really **** off the people behind me!

Glad to here I am not the only one doing that(slowing down early). I would recomend a tuneup first, then ignition mods, filters, exaust.

A cat back exhasut and high flow converter would help after you do a complete tune up. Besides flowing more efficently you get more HP when you want it.

well like most a tuneup...remove any intake restrictions to allow more air in. Check the timing, CHECK THE TIRE PRESSURE!!!!!!!! running with the ac on will kill the MPG. light on the pedal, use premium gas..there is a differance trust me. I get a 40 miles to the tank difference between 89-93/4 run the highway as much *** possible and stay outta the street driving.
Ummm maybe a K&N will help alittle.

Damn... From what I've seen here on the boards gas mileage really sucks in CA. I get 20MPG around town (with a real heavy foot) and 32MPG highway.

Doesn't CA use that oxygenated/reformulated gasoline? NJ stops that for the summertime, and man, am I glad.
