To TomP : modify my rear inner wheel ?others too

<to "modify" my rear inner wheel wells with a sledge.>(copy of your post.)
How did you do it? My new set is scratching in the rear (tires), I would like to do it with a sledge, but I'm afraid of killing my paint and it starts to rust.
Procedure how you've done it would be great.
thanks
Horst

well no. just remember to tap it over and not hammer. you may want to get a small piece of 2by4 or something that you can use to crease it over on...probly like 2 inches or something like that...I have also seen and heard of people using wooden bats to do the same thing...They roll it between the tire and the fender well...and well roll it. you can lift the bat to get the roll higher...It worked good on a friends car in Va...Think he rolled a good 1 1/2 inches under the car. He took a small grinder to shear off the excess and then of course painted the bare metal.

Glad to have helped.

Planned mods:
Soon coming 3 inch exhaust, 1.6 rockers, High flow 'Verter, and Ignition system. Along with a coplete turbo 4.3 swap planned later this year(hoping to get into the 10's..)
Current mods:
Set of Iroc sway bears front and rear..amazing differance, Air box bottom completely removed allowing my K&N to act like an open element filter.
Lower profile tires, 195/55/15 front 205/55/15 rear handles better.

Sterio Sony CD head unit and 9 band EQ, Boston acutics 4x6 dash, Alpine 3 way 6x9 sail, California sounds active crossover, Kroiiler 600 watt amp powering the 'pines and Bostons, 600 watt Jensen powering 2 Rockord Fosgate RFZ1812 subs. And all this cost less then $575...

I never solved it; I run air shocks in the back to raise the car up so the lip won't hit the tire. The bat method is what I'd suggest; although, if you only have -one- spot where the tires hit, tap the one spot in. No sense rolling the whole lip if there's just a few centimeters that hit the tire!

Oh! That's right; you asked for "inner wheel"! Oops, my bad.

The problem was on the passenger side. Right behind the axle was the spot that would've pinned my tire to the car. What I did was I had a set of P245/60r15's on the back. I calculated how much wider a P255/70r15 would be. Then I used the old tire as a gauge to widen the inner wheel well. I marked the problem area with chalk. It was at the very bottom of the inner wheel well, so it'd bend easily...

I took the tire off, and used a sledge hammer to pound the metal backward. I remember there being one spot that didn't want to move at all; but most of it moved over easy. Then I put the original tire back on and remeasured... it fit fine, so I yanked it off, and sprayed the damaged metal with "rubberized undercoating" to protect it.

Hope that helps!
