ram air cover

I was thinking of instead of just leaving the ram air ducts showing where the fog lights go, has anyone tried to put like a cover on them, kinda like those street rods have on the scoops that when you give it gas the covers swing back and open up to suck in air. Would this work with our ram air set up or will it just obstruct the air from going up there?

If you could do that, it'd be btchin! How would you do the hookup though? Would you actuate the doors electrically or mechanically? Would you go to the throttle linkage, or would you put a WOT switch on the throttle body which activated motors to open the flaps? Electrically sounds like a safer idea; if you had mechanical linkage, and the flaps locked up, you wouldn't be stuck at WOT. I've drawn up some sketches of a plan like that, but I never had it controlled by throttle position. I had it controlled by a switch (that I'd manually turn on) or a pull-cable.

that sounds like an awesome idea. really, all you would need are two trap doors that are hinged, as the incoming air & rearward shift of weight during acceleration would push open the doors; that is, if they were installed just on the inside of the tubing lip. i'll make sure to put some sort of door stop on mine so the doors don't swing open on deceleration! time to go to my drawing table....

I guess it's a good idea. If anyone is going to do it I think the best way to go is to get an 8 in. dryer duct, the kind you can bolt up to the wall, and a 90 deg. elbow and make sure you completely seal any spaces where the air might leak out, and make the covers out of alluminum and solder a sewing needle to both sides or any thin metal and just let them hang there from their hinges, and theoretically IF done right, whenever you give it some gas the doors should swing back. Now I got something to do tomorrow.
