Re: How to do the 3.4 long block swap Boogie! :)

Hello, I just bought a 88 Firebird with the 2.8 and the car has 43,000 original miles but something is wrong with the engine as locked up so I was scanning the internet and came across this thread. I see it’s old but is anyone still there to ask questions when I do this swap?

Re: How to do the 3.4 long block swap Boogie! :)

I have my 3.4 tore down to a long block and ready to swap over the 2.8 items however the 3.4 came with a flywheel for a stick and mine is a auto. Can I just use my 2.8 flex plate and knock the weight off? Then the 3.4 balancer has a reluctor wheel built into it so do I still use it?

I also can’t find a true Cloyes roller timing chain?
Thanks

Also the engine is pretty varnished up, what’s the best way to clean it without taking it apart?

The best thing to do is to pull it apart. Do you know how many miles are on the 3.4?

Re: How to do the 3.4 long block swap Boogie! :)

I know this thread is old but I’m finally done with my swap and everything is new. Ive only put 8 miles on the car because I was told it would be running rich. It’s a .030 over 3.4 with a 260 dur cam and 1.6 roller tip rockers. Running Pace Setter headers and a high flow cat. Installed new 3.4 injectors and timing is set at either 6 or 8 degrees I don’t remember. I was told the ECU is going to run it rich due to the cam headers and increased displacement. The car 88 Firebird feels peppy off the line but from 50 on it’s a dog. Been looking for a way to tune it but was told need the 7730 ECU but after researching it all kinds of stuff needs to be changed out. What are.your thoughts?
