well you can get stockers from chevy...you might be able to find chrome 2.8 covers from someone, but generally they are'nt made. Me personally after I get my rockers am going to make carbon fiber ones for mine..

That idea doesn't work for small block chevys & I really doubt it would work for your situstion, too. Probably need a spacer, just as some small block chevys valve covers may need spacers.
Try speed shops or vendors, but, really doubt it.
NO market for them.
For fun, ask the rocker arm makers what they recommend you do.
That's why I said go with roller tip rocker. That will work & will fit under the covers.

What the -h*ll- makes a valve cover not smog/street legal? That just makes no sense...

I heard something about chrome valve covers a while ago; don't know if it holds any truth, but- I hear chrome valve covers are more likely to leak at the gasket than normal valve covers. The reason given was that since the chrome is so shiny, it doesn't seal well to the gasket. The solution given was to scuff the gasket area of the chrome valve cover with a fine grit sandpaper, I guess 320 or 400, to make the surface rough, which would make it seal better to the gasket.

I thought the chrome valve covers from Edelbrock were only $60? I think they might be "unbaffled", too... under your stock valve covers, there's a piece of rubber 2/3 down the length that I -think- controls oil from splashing into the PCV system.

Does anyone know what those baffles do? Are they important? Can they be shoved underneath an unbaffled valve cover?

I agree with Tom I also heard about leak problems with the chrome covers. When I looked into a set you also had to buy the brackets for the kickdown cable seperatly.

I installed a set of Edlebrock chrome valve covers when we rebuilt the engine.I had heard about the leaky problem and used a wire brush to "scuff" the area where the gasket sits and have had no leaks. These valve covers will cost $75 + shipping from Edlebrock.
They do not have a oil filler hole. But they do have a hole for the PCV valve and for the breather tube on the driver side valve cover.I have no clearance problems what so ever.
The hardest part about any valve cover on the MPFI 2.8's is removing everything on top to install them.

I've got the Chrome Edlebrock covers with the 1.52 rooler tip rockers under them.No clearance problems here.
You stock covers have 3 holes.Passanger side has 1 hole for the fresh air intake. The driver side has 2 holes.1 for the PCV and 1 for oil fill.
The Edlebrock covers only have 2. 1 for PCV(drive)and 1 for fresh air(pass).
Your stock covers have oil splash guards. The chromies don't.
To fill with oil I pull the PCV out drop the oil in there. To keep oil out of the PCV,the pieces I bought to seal the hole where my PCV goes has the splash guards inplace.Pretty easy to find. The Edlebrock will run you like $70.Unless you buy a used set like I did.
