Re: 3.1 heads

Thats pretty much what im trying to find out. I understand that the aluminum heads are better. Im just trying to find options working with what i have and changing the cam and somewhere between 6-10 psi of boost is all. I really do appreciate all the information i have recieved thus far and value it. If in the future i do all the forementioned things and still want more power, then i will look at the hybrid swap and more boost. I seen what dave did with a stock 2.8 and boost and thats more or less what im looking into.

In that case, I'd just PM him, and ignore everyone else.

The H260 cam from Comp works good with boost and the stock one isn't terrible either, but either way you should upgrade the valve springs to avoid valve float.

You can re-route your stock exhaust with a few mandrel U bends from Summit back up into the engine bay for the turbo pretty easy. Just make sure to support the turbo well and run a good sized downpipe and a good exhaust after it. You do not want any restriction there.

There are a couple different ways to take care of the fueling, the most precise way would be to swap to a '7730 ECM and run Code 59 with a 3 bar MAP and correctly sized injectors. I have a feeling that lots of other people will suggest using a RRFPR.. which will work but you may not get all the power possible out of the setup.

the delta 260 cam is on a wider lsa and better for boost not to mention its half the price

rrfpf on a 3.1 is no good even with one the motor will detonate and blow up

it works ok on a 2.8 since the ecm sees the increased flow and pulls timing

3.1 sees 0 vac and has no idea of the increased airflow and does nothing
at bare minimum rrfpr and an msd btm would be needed on a 3.1

ive proven a 3.1 can make 280+ power at alot less then 14 psi

i was averaging fuel milage in the mid 30mpg range with my car, and that had a high stall converter and 4:10 rear gears

with a 5 speed and a lower gear ratio i see no reason why u couldnt pull low 40mpg

Re: 3.1 heads

I'm looking to do something similar. I have a stock 3.1 V6 in a 1991 Camaro RS. I want to do something minor to increase the performance/power output of my V6. Along with a head swap. I was thinking also incorporating a set of Pacesetter P/N 70-1206 headers. From the websites and research I've performed (thirdgen threads along with 60degreev6.com threads) I've found that swapping for a 3400 head will most likely be the best course of action. But I am a little confused as too what I will need to do/what I will need. If someone could please summarize what other materials besides the 3400 series heads are needed and what type of work is required (bolt on to custom fabrication) will be needed. Thank you.

Re: 3.1 heads

Is $180 shipped for a pair of 3100 fwd heads a good deal? They were recently stripped clean and look imaculate. Sorry for the time I between responses in the posting for this thread.
