What should i look for? gotta do swap.

I have to get started ripping out my 2.8 that went last week and find a 3.1 of 3.4 to drop in? What car's(besides the f bodys) had the 3.4 in them that will work in my '84 bird with a 700r tranny...is there a way to make the sideways or front wheel drive motors work? this is going to be my first motor swap so any help/tips will be appreciated .....thanks

Car: 1991 Corvette Coupe
Engine: L98
Transmission: 700R4/4L60 same trans different name
dont even consider a Front wheel drive engine; if you do, EVERYTHING will have to be changed, thus killing the "cheap n easy" approach this swap is known for

hum i was thinking about using just the "block" out of my friends cavalier 3.1 that he is parting out.....i think you can use the block and swap everything off your old motor on to it.....not sure though

I think I take up Billy's idea of charging for typing this answer LOL!
Glad to apss along the knowledge.
Follow the tips & you'll be happy.
I wish I had these answers before I did my swap, would of saved like $100-200.

One final word of caution.
Make DAMN sure you have a strong tranny, NOW!
Make sure EVERYTHING now is perfect/excellent shape.
IGNITION
FUEL SYSTEM
ELECTRICAL
After you do this swap, you do not want to even try to problem solve those parts. YOu'll be chasing your a$$ (read those dollars signs ALOT).
All the effort you put into BEFORE THE SWAP, ensures a perfect, turn key engine management system, that is 100% reliable & easy to problem solve.
I know.
I did it.
I also passed CALIFORNIA SMOG TEST ONLY with this swap, too.
Without a raised eyebrow, besides-
"Wow, this car runs real clean!!"

SO SORRY just read one detail
YOU HAVE A CARB!!!

Well, Bunkie, have I got the ticket for YOU!!
1. the 3.4 block DOES NOT HAVE FUEL PUMP AREA AT ALL!!!!
BUT.....
You need an electric fuel pump for your mission.
Holley makes them. Others, also, not sure of those names, tho.

This is the problem I will have (you have now for this swap) when I slip the 3.4 under the hood of my 1985 S-10 Blazer.
V-8 swaps are a pain in the butt (i.e.-smog referees-yeechk!)

Again, go get an external holley fuel pump, FOR CARBS!! Or low fuel pressure (about 4-6 PSI-NOTHING MORE, you'll dump/pressure fuel into the carb & destroy the carb).
Keep the carb set up & intake.
The Edelbrock one is a waste of money, for the simple reason, ist is identical to what you have now (aluminum intake for a two barrel)! The big deal with the Edelb. thing is that it's a two piece (one top for 2-bbl & one top for 4-bbl, big deal).
Keep your original intake.

Everything else I wrote, will apply, just remove the electronic fuel injection notes & those details, pay attention to your current (carb & CURRENT EXHAUST LOGS) intake & exhaust set up & you're good to go!
Happy swapping!!!
IF YA NEED ANY ELECTONIC STUFF, contact my Buddy at Kay Auto

www.kayauto.com

In the subject section write "ATTN: SAUL FELIX PARTS/PRICE QUOTE"
MAKE SURE you mention that Karl with a 1974 Corvette & 1968 Camaro sent ya.
That ensures a BETTER PRICE. He promised that he will UNDERCUT ANYONE!

And still give ya BRAND NEW AC DELCO STUFF!!
Any questions, email me.

UNLESS YOU GET A FWD (east-west) 3.4 FOR FREE, seek out the right combo of engine (north-south).
1993-1995 F-body, only.
