Mods and Results

These are the mods when I ran at

Jan 2000
77 Degrees

1/4...16.145
1000...13.830
MPH...79.59
60'...2.203
R/T....715

CompuLink StarTrak recored the times. That is the system they use.

The mods then were as follows a lot has changed since:

Dynomax Muffler, no I havea cat back and high flow converter

MSD Coil

Accel Wires 8.8MM

Accel 200+ Ignition Box

Rapid Fire Plugs

Shift Kit

No Spare Tire or car mats or stereo crap

No Car Jack

5 Gallons of Gas 89 Octane

Fan Riged to run with ignition

K&N Drop in filters now I have a concical setup

Mobil 1 oil 10 W30

Now I have the battery in the trunk, Full cat back, catco converter, headers, double roller chain, ported plenum upper and lower, Crane 8.5MM Fire Wires, Stock Plugs, and may other future ideas, some urethane busings

My car is a 1986 Camaro, 2.8 V6, 180,000 miles, no rebuild, no major leaks, runs synthetic oil, runs stronger than any 2.8 I have seen or driven in several years. Actually compared to my buddies 89 RS I am drastically stronger than his ride. His times were 18.823,18.943, and 19.077. I know this because each of my last 3 runs where I got this information for you were against him at Orlando Speed World... The temp was around 78 degrees at night with low humidity. We have since determined his times suck because his brother before he sold him the car tossed on 1.6 rockers thinking it would help. It appears to make things worse with a stock cam and lifters and springs. Now hi car again only has 77,000 miles I have almost 3 times that and am drastically faster with less mods.

My worst run ever with my 2.8 is 16.745 at 78.55MPH and I had tire spin in the 1-2 shift with the auto and shift kit and the MAF had to be replaced the next day because during the run a SES light came on and the car barely made it home.

I got the same time Mike H got them Original 2.8 headers. A shop in Miami had 2 sets sitting in a warehouse he put on ebay. Mike bought one and told me about the other. I called the guy and boom the deal was done. It was great. I know if I get the crane 2030 cam it has the note a slight exhast sound imagine that with headers.

I have no times or will not be getting any times for all my new mods until january/december. With 2 new car payments (only 3.5 years left and they are mine) I have kept the camaro in the garage just tinker with it in hopes it will run with the big dog's...

This is for those who want to race their 2.8's. I have been to the speed world many times. Most cars are only running 15's. 4th Gen camaro hit the 13's and the new stangs are runnin low 14's. Civis I have seen run 16's, but LOW and a few modded rice are runnin mid 15's (headers, intake, ect..).... So if ya can build the 2.8 into a mid 15's car, in all reality you have a pretty sporty third gen compared to all that is out there. Also, remember it is all not about HP. You need torque, traction and experience. Many honda's have high HP, but no torque to move them off the line. Also weight is important. I noticed 99 percent of rice will gut their cars to go to the track. I am all for removing the spare, jack and excess stereo crap, but they remove seats, carpet, and speakers. I can't see doing all that cause once your back on the street you add it all back in and how fast are you really?

Those things are very fast.
Next to where I hang on the weekends at a machinist shop, is a Honda shop.
Stripped ain't the word.
Try cardboard thin sheet metal with 2 wheels driving it!
The things are free, ya know. It's the engines. Anyone else here ever have a Sport Motorcycle?
I had a pocket rocket back in the early 80's
Yamaha Vision 750cc
I LOVED doing 12,000RPMs for Breakfast!
These Hondas are based on those hi-reving motorcycle engines.
They are fast. But the people driving many of them are really insane.
Alot of us do "stupid pet tricks" on the road.
Those ricers, ......

Very respectable on what you were running at the time Sounds like ya are familure with getting the parts to work tougether taking a look at what you have done since. Most likely the headers and catback alone has got ya into the 15's. I did some research on the "average" concerning the 1/4 mile from cars of the 60's to 2000. 14.7 is the average time in a performance car. Our little mills can do that if pushed N/A bt its a easy step on a low budget build and NOS in the 50 to 75hp range. I personally have pushed a 3.1L in a 1991 firebird to 13.8 in the 1/4. Not impressive in the V8 world but damn impressive in the V6 world and even embarrassing when a V8 falls prey to it. Your 16.14 would keep up to a stock 305 firebird - further proof that we V6'ers are not FOS

But like I also pointed out my buddy syxx has a new camaro, less miles and more mods, but the wrong mods and he is running drastically slower. So I firmly belive in prodcution some runs had better tolerances than others. That is the only thing that could explain out time differences along with the fact his mods aren't working for him, especialyy the 1.6 rockers on a stock cam.

I think the problem with your friends setup of using 1.6 rockers with a stock cam is more due towards restrictions of the TB and intake and not neccessarily the cam, IMO. A stock cam would benefit greatly with 1.6 ratios to increase lift while maintaining duration and overlap. With this combo his torque should have improved. It could also be his springs. I wouldn't blame the cam, though.

Am I the only one that noticed the bad 60' times? Get a posi and some sticky tires. That will really hep your ET's if you get out of the hole better.

Also your buddies car is wrong.it should be faster than that. Some thing is majorly wrong.
1.6 ratio rockers should have helped, there is no way they could have hurt. They allow more lift to get more air into you engine.

What gear are you running, he might have a 2.73 and you a 3.73 which would make the cars feel completly different.

Anyways you got some good times, but your buddies poor car needs some help cause something is wrong with it.

Past Thirdgen:
86 Trans Am w/ built 355TPI with SLP goodies and too much other stuff to List. One sweet *** car, wish I would have had a good enough Job to pay insurance on three cars so I could keep it, but for a 89 Turbo Trans Am w/ Low miles, I think I made the right choice!
