any body know what kind of tranny a 1990 3.1 RS has????

What about the 92's. Is it 700r4 allso. If so is that the same one as the V8's come with.

1992 is the 700r4 also. the transmission itself is the same but the engine to trany bolt ups are different for the v6 and v8

Engine: 3.1 L v6 & 305 (5.0L) v8
Transmission: 4L60 Auto
Well to be truthful the 1992 auto transmission is called a 4L60 WITH NO e but it really has the 700r4 guts in it.

Engine: 2.8 V6
Transmission: 700R4
Yep; forever and always, remember that 700r4 = 4L60. GM just changed the name to something that "means more"-

4 = 4 gears
L = Longitudinal mount (rear wheel drive)
60 = number standing for it's internal strength
