Care to explain? All inside.

Well, I talked to a friend who bought an old friend's 92 RS. She said it was running 15.9's, SO naturally I thought that she must mean 16.9.

Well, I talked to the guy that sold it to her..a friend of mine, and he SWEARS that the only things he did to the car (and yes, it is 15.9!!!!) was add a Flowmaster exhaust, a tuneup, and a Jet Stage 2 chip. He said the previous owner didn't do anything to the car either....at least that he's aware of.

I don't understand....what's up w/ this?

were performance parts used in the tuneup ? accel cap and ignition coil ? ...I heard a cap and rotar helps out some but, but the ignition coil helps out alot (not a whole lot) but more than the cap and rotar . if this is the case maybe the chip has something to do with helping out the igniton .....just a theory ,....I do know jet is a damn good chip ...Wayne

Weren't the RS's in 1992 the 5.0l motor? Or was the v8 an option for the RS?

Hmmm... Could be very low miles and it could be a very aggressive chip.. I have been told Jet makes a killer chip for the 60 degree.... The engine could have been built to killer tolerances too...

Maybe a combonation of factors , very possible like Brian said , a killer chip , but with the killer chip ,maybe the weather conditions were ideal , maybe 60 degrees with no wind , maybe a good driver to ....Wayne .....hmm i have a new 2.8 motor mildly modded ..wonder what mine would run 14s hehe ..YEAH ..Only in my dreams

Yah Red, but it's STOCK. THe chip is the same as mine, a Jet Stage 2. I dunno...gotta run my car again, see what I get....and it's hit consistent 15.9's-16.1's.

I gotta go with Tom on this one. That time sounds very similar to a lightly modded TBI 305....not a sixer. Those TBI's are low 16 second cars.

hmm am I the only one that realizes that stock to stock the TBI motors do not have that much over the 6?. Maybe 10 ponies and a little more torque. Though I must say now that my engine and is stands now runs all over my 91 TBI and 2(two) other TBI firebirds in town... And lets not forget theres been a topic where a TBI got beaten by a GT Sunfire!. And actually they do have the same range of time slips... I think the sunfire GT has 15.9 is what Road and track tested it as(with correction for temp and altitude)

Ok guys. I'm not a rookie....I know that RS was offered in 8, but I also know that there's a taillight difference, AND I know that when the hood's popped, and there's 2 missing cylinders, then it's a 3.1, not a 305.

It is a V6, NOT a v8. I'm just having a hard time understanding how this happened.

Ah, okay, I didn't know you looked under the hood; I thought you just talked to your friend. I wonder what work was done!
