I have an 88 2.8 thats in pretty good condition overall. the only problem is the car only runs with a full tank. when it drops below 3/4 tank it starts skipping and not wanting to go (no fuel pres.?) and then it gradually worsens until the car stalls out while driving. Then the only way it will start back up is if you put gas in it. as soon as you put half a gallon in, it will start right up. I don't know much about the car but when it starts acting up i can hear the fuel pump making noise, to me it sounds as if it can't reach the gas far enough down? could my gas pickup in the tank be raised to high or even stuck? i bought it with a full tank of gas lol. My first guess is fuel pump on the way out. The pickup is fixed, it doesn't move up and down.

 

Yup it's the fuel pump don't wait like I did and ended up stranded in Az desert in 112 degree heat waiting on AAA no fun
