Fuse keeps burning.........

Ok, I originally posted this in the electronics section ,but for some reason they never really answer me. And you guys always answer like everyones question so what I wanted to know was why the fuse for the dome light and cig lighter keeps burning out once in a while? Especially if I take my radar detector out of the cig lighter and try to put a dual outlet charger in there so I can keep the radar detector and charge my cell phone, the fuse just burns out. Then I'm stuck without my dome light and other things. I think the fuse is marked accessories on the fuse box underneath the dash. Should I try a bigger fuse?

IT is because of the weird desgn of the cig lighter ,,,, my cig lighter kept blowing mine so I have to run without it other wise I won't have a horn. You might have to wire up something custom from the battery to the interior with some stuff from radio shack to run a radar detector and a cell phone.

Replace the ligther, not the socket but the part that plugs in. My was faulty and keept blowing the fuse everytime I pluged it in.

Also the radar and cell at the same time may be drawing to much power which will blow it.

hey
i work at radio shack. the cell phone alone will really drain the system. people come in saying how the cigerette adapter have drained thir batteries within an hour or so, so you can imagine how much of the power it drains. when you charge your phone make sure the car is on and your altenator is good. just use one accesory with cigerette lighter, anything else will end up draining way too much power.

The lighter circuit is not that bad, I wired my amp to it (too lazy to go thru the firewall). Oh and for a precaution, I put a 15 amp fuse b/twn the amp and the lighter.

I've had my radar detector and CB radio (both permanently wired, both go into the accy' fuse) on at the same time, and never had the fuse blow. Could the previous owner of the car have added an accessory somewhere?

Oh- and I've also had my cell phone added to that mix, without a blown fuse. That's the only electrical device that gets physically plugged into the cig lighter (even though the other two run off the same circuit).

So I couldn't just stick a bigger fuse in it? I'm sorry, I'm not too good on electronic stuff so don't laugh at me. The lighter that plugs into the cig lighter can't be the culprit because I never plug it in. I don't smoke and I always have my radar detector on. I checked for change and it was clean. So basically I just have to live with this or what?

that or run new wiring and a new fuse....or find where its shorting.. personally id just hard wire that radar detector in... the interior looks better too with the ash tray closed
