First ya gotta buy the GM Performance Parts book ($6) at any GM dealer.
What makes a 3.4 head?
Different springs, retainers. Pretty much that's it. In other words, you do have the castings, now.
That said......
You'll also need new guides.
OR ya can buy the new heads for a 3.4. But, this has been discoverd that the cost is about $700 for pair.
That said.... can ya find the engine? I paid $800 for mine & I can get more.
Cause when ya get the GM book, you'll notice the limits GM offers for their special 2.8/3.1 blocks.
GM does not make a special 3.4 block. One is made to buy the complete engine.
AND that's not a bad plan, either!

3.4= (B & S)= 3.62" x 3.31"
And (quoting now) bore is .120" larger & stroke is .320" larger than a 2.8.

Heads- 14054884 are the numbers ya wants.
Like porting 882's?
I have those on my 1974 Corvette. They do ok. Keep your cam lift on the medimum convservative side. These heads can't breathe to well, but do ok.
I'm using 487X heads on my 1974 350 engine. Those are the best of the smog era heads.
I'm using 186 on my "LT-1" engine I'm building for the 1967 Camaro 350.

When ya get naked 60* heads in hand, you'll be surprised how well they look compared to the poor casting work done in the past. Those V-8 heads..... ya need to port & polish. To ME... just increase the bore & stroke (get a 3.4!) and have a blast. If ya wanna port, do the split intake set up. Easier work, aluminum! I'd like to play with my intake, but, it's not worth it until I can make more air get into engine (more fresh air). NOW I HAVE TORQUE (using a 3.4 engine)
Was gonna do that, but now gotta figure out stupid check engine codes of... I'll count them again on Saturday!!!!
Buy this book, great pics, excellent education on this engine! Even tho it's only 5 pages long!!!

yeah i got the pace book.

Still up in air if iam gona swap the 3.4 or build on what i got. I talked to the guys at jet and they can burn custom proms, they are sending me a form to fill out. So it looks like as the money comes in ill be doing the build up. Not sure on heads what iam going to do, if i can get a set of 3.4 ill be happy cause then i wont have to pay for the valve job since they allrdy have the 1.7's . I also talked to comp and one of there tech guys sent me a e-mail back with a custom grind number cam, i dont have the specs off the top of my head. Comp also has a cam for comp controlled cars with a 440 440 lift with a 112 lobe. if i can get the prom burnt to work with this thats what will be goin in. I also found a blower that was made for the 3.8 but will fit on a 3.4 wich should mean that it will fit on the other rwd 60' V6's, i still have some looking into on that one.

I paid $800 for my 40K engine. Complete.
Paid about $150 for gaskets. Because I laid out the details, you can spend so much less on gaksets, buy an engine gasket kit. I did not.
Sold my left over parts for $105
I got solid 170-175HP & 200 Ft Lb of torque for $850.
NO machine costs.
No engine assembly required, just swapping parts.
Want one of these engines?
This guy can get them all day long.
Call 323-587-3144 Ask for Marty, tell him Karl sent ya. From 8-4 PST M-F
