Headlight Ram Air Idea
I've heard about many people yanking their fog lights out and running a/c ducts up to their intake as a low-income way to produce a Ram Air effect. I don't have the fog light bezel, but I was struck by an untraditional idea this afternoon. I propose this idea: Re-wire the headlights so the Camaro runs on only 2, dual mode headlights. (Combined hi and lo beams). Then, remove the mounting brackets and all from the empty headlight slow, and use the 2 slots as scoops. It should be pretty easy to run tubes up to the intake. My question is..would it cost me too much to get the headlight electronics/wiring re-done? Bottom line...dumb idea or not? Thanks guys.

91 Camaro RS V-6 3.1 auto
Mods:K&N Filtercharger, 7mm Copper-Core Superstock sparkplug wires
Kills:
*98 Chevy Cavalier (that little 4 cyl put up a good fight!)
*91 Camry DX (rustbucket 4 cyl..need I say more?)
*86 Camaro RS 2.8 w/ Flowmaster, High-Performance Cam, K&N, 2 other high-performance parts I can't remember. (How in the hell did I do it? His transmission slipped.)

So, do you think it can be done pretty cheaply? If it's gonna cost me in excess of like $100, I'm not gonna mess with it.
well this idea is far from new and has floated around before. It could be alot better then the normal Idea of the fog light style, simple because they would be able to avoid the water splash pick up from the lower fog light opening pick ups.
I personally think it would look very odd but to each there own.

I think it would look a little strange, but it'd give me a nice push... And if the inside of the duct were black, it wouldn't look too bad with a chrome metal mesh over it.

I've seen it on older cars, and it's looked great. I've also seen what looks like the same idea on the older 92'ish Mustangs, run thru the fog lights in the front bumper kit.
I heard someone suggest you might not pass inspection, simply because the Camaro was designed for a 4-light system and not a 2-light, even though you'd have the same high & low beams. Just something to think about... but yeah, sounds great!

Rez..Yeah, you have to send me photos of that man. I'd like to see how it looks. I don't have access to a metal shop, but I might be able to find a friend that does. Was it tricky for you to do the wiring? And who knows about inspection... I'll just make sure I get the most powerful combo headlights I can... I think they'd let me walk on that.. E-mail me the photos Rez, at: CallMeMrNixon@aol.com
Or you can post links in here if they're on a website. Thanks guys.

The wiring for the headlights was easy. There was none.
I just took out the high-beams and put the low beams on the other side because the outside of the facia will get more air. Then I bought Sylvania "Cool blue" low beam replacement lights. The high-beam/low-beam switch still works. The high-beams aren't as bright as factory, but they're there.
The sheetmetal transitions go from 4"x6" to 3" round (there's one on each side). Then there's an adjustable elbow going into the lightly modified air box.
I still want to rig up a dual-pipe system and run it from both sides into a central airbox, but I haven't got around to it yet.

Rez..no wiring at all? How? Unless I'm mistaken, it's set up to power the 2 inner lights on low beam setting, and to power all 4 on high beam..wouldn't you have to fiddle with it to get it to variate power to the 2 instead of try to put power to 2 non existant ones? Anyhow, it looks real nice. What did you do for filtration? I've been trying to decide how exactly I should set it up..a description/under the hood photo would help a lot. Thanks.

Well, I looked a bit under my hood beause I've been talking about this idea and haven't even looked under my hood to see how I'd have to do it... I'd have to rearrange a few things to get it to work...might have to move my battery, not sure.. I'll definitely have to move the...whatchamacallit, the cylinder right next to the air filter can, on the left. So...dunno how soon I'll end up doing this..
