From what the subject says does anyone have an answer? Does anyone else have this under the gas cap?

Any rust any where needs to be stopped as FAST AS POSSIBLE, it's called "car cancer", Go to a body shop or do it yourself, clean up all rust and prime and paint it fast.

 

Rust is a natural process so let it be its great for removing all kinds of parts, lol

Gas rots a car body pretty quick, but where i live they put so much salt on the roads it doesn;t matter, its going to rust, Rust Sucks, and you should get it looked at because rust on the gas cap is the most common place to see it.

 

Under the gas cap... as in, inside the tank? Or do you mean under the filler door?

Look to http://www.por15.com for the ultimate in rust-stopping paint. I used it for my 3.73/posi/disc axle swap, and on the T/A rear sway bar, and it worked great! The super starter kit's only $20.

Like when I unscrew the gas cap, there is rust on the thread of the gas cap and the place you put the gas in. Is this bad?

Oh, inside the fill nozzle? It's not -that- bad... chances are, that rust is pretty "dry", since it's under the cap. The thing to watch for is to try not to wash the rust out of the filler neck and into your gas tank, where the rust will clog the filter.

You could take a rag (not a paper towel!), moisten it, and rub it over the rust; see if it picks up any loose particles. Don't use a paper towel because you don't want a piece of towel falling into your tank. It'd be hard to do, since there's that little flap blocking the gas tank, but why chance the risk? Sounds like it's fine, though.
