Okay guys, wait until you hear this story. I let my buddy drive my car(mistake #1) Somewhere along the line of him having it he broke my ignition key!!!!! So what does he do? he super glues it back togetgher!!!! So when i get my keys back i had no idea(i usually dont inspect my keys) So i put the key in and drove home, but when i go to take they key out, only half of the thing came out. After calling and screaming at him, he told me what had happened. So now i have half a key super glued in my ignition. How doi get it out?

did the key cylinder turn to off? if so.. take some chewed gum on the end of a stick or something.. or get a magnet thats small and stick it in there... that or take some more super glue put it on the part u have stick it back in the key cylinder for a few minutes and pull it out.

Just checked - not sure what kind of pot metal my keys are made of, but they aren't ferrous so a magnet won't work.

I'd be afraid to try more superglue also, as it will more than likely drip into the tumblers and pins of the lock.

I'd say you'll have to pull the lock mechanism and take it to a locksmith, who can extract the broken part and then cut a new key to fit.

What about a dental pick?

I know! Just pick the car up, tilt it on it's side, and shake it up & down. The key will fall right out.

Woah- wait- is the key actually superglued to the keylock itself??? Time to hit your buddy up for $50 or so!

(Unless you want to dive into the steering column yourself, that is.) The Haynes 82-92 manual shows how to go into the steering column. There's one piece you'll need; it's a tool for depressing the "lock plate". This plate is what you'll see when you pull the steering wheel off; it's pushed 'towards you' by a spring. You use this tool to depress the plate, then you remove a pin (I think it's a pin?), then you can remove the lock plate.

Is this friend of your's a moroon? Is the broken part thats inside the tumbler glued to the inside? How in *** 's name did he break the key?
Anyway, you can do 2 things.(1)Glue the 2nd half back together and leave the key in the ignition(not to practical, especially in a high car theft area).(2)Ask your friend for $80 for a new tumbler and key.I know it's not exactly $80 but you got to have a little extra for the troubles. If he won't do it,take it out of his *** !

The ignition tumbler isn't hard to change. The wires for the VATS are somewhat of a pain to run down through the steering column. But you will have to remove the wheel and turn signal stuff to access the tumbler.
