Should I do this??
I hear people letting the fuel pressure build up then starting the car. Should I start doing this? I just put the key in and start it. Any advantages/disadvantages to it?
My dad does that to his car. He's an instrument tech, so he's just special like that when it comes to any electronic machinery.
I did it for the initial start-up/leak test of my engine.
It might save a few extra cranks if the cars been sitting a few days and lost pressure. Thus reduce start-up wear and tear due to the low oil pressure during cranking.
In my opinion i'd say all things being equal it would make your engine last another 2,000 km's.

If I just put the key in, and hop right to "crank", my car takes forever to start.
If I put the key to "run" first, and let the fuel pump prime, it'll take a half second of cranking to start up.
Of course, when there's a cute girl nearby, I usually forget to let the pump prime, and the thing just cranks & cranks like a dead car..

OH ya Tom.....don't think mine doesn't impress the girls
Such a conversation starter. "Oh my *** , did your car just start by itself?" "Yah, it just likes to show off for the attractive girls."
Or if they're Ugly "Yah, gotta go, later"

Well my car doesn't have trouble starting except when it's very cold. So I don't have to worry about priming the fuel system when I'm looking at other things
I'll have to look into that remote start now... very good use overclck.. he he he. I was just wondering if there were any benefits to it. On a side note, does that line really work??

I just hop in turn the key and go. The car will start right away.
The car will take a bit longer when the temps hit -30*F or below overnight. Then I let the pump prime and it goes right away.

On the side note...does any line EVER work? It's all how you play it off and make the smooth recovery that you get judged on. Luckily humor's my style, so I laugh at the line, and then start up the conversation.

Fck, now that you reminded me... I meant to put a remote start in my car and my girlfriend's, during the summer, so our morning -wake-up-and-run-for-college- ritual wouldn't be so painfully damn cold... oh well, too late now; someone remind me for next summer!
Hey do you know what wires the remote start patched into? My buddy's got his MECP (car electronics certification), and tells me of all kinds of wires that need to be run for a remote start. But, then again, he's talking about newer cars, 99% of which are imports...

Lots of wires supposed to be run. unit cost me $40, figured I'd do it myself...asked a friend to do it who's done the stuff for 12 years, he said no (thinking I wasn't going to pay him) and so I paid someone $170 to do it (no Vaseline either). Then the friend said I'd have done it for $50. I was going to give him $75.

The remote start thing probably woudn't help me at the moment, unless I use it as a "conversation starter"
I haven't had a working blower motor for like a year now
I think I'm going to break down and spend $30 for a new one tomorrow. Are they hard to install? My sis had to drive my car today, 'cause she sold her 88 'bird, it was frosty this morn and it kept freezing up on her way to school
No defroster... I on the otherhand between a blown brake line and my sis using my car, I got to drive my dad's truck ,which I absolutely love. Hmmm... I got my car back wed and still haven't got to drive it! Not even so much as sit in it!! Doesn't that just suck... since I can't remember what I was going to say and you know my life story... this is long enough. Geez Tom, I'm getting as bad as you in length of posts... Though you do pretty good.

Yep, that ONE 9/32 bolt was a pain. Dad did get a little red in the face, but he got it. I would have liked to have helped, but he was the hog and did most of it himself. The only thing I did was put that one bolt bcak in for him. I didn't know there was a metal piece that acted like a shim on those things. I took it back to NAPA and said "it diesn't fit, you gave me one foe a 305 v8" (like I knew it didn't make a difference at the time). He just popped of that little metal piece and said here ya go. While we were ther dad got a swivel joint small enough to attach to the socket he had to make things easier on that ONE bolt

It dosnt hurt to let them pressurize. I always do . I guess because I drive diesel equiptment all day and I'm used to waiting for the glow plugs to heat up
.
On another note,
The remote starters , do they come with a pretty good wire diagrahm for the self installer?
