y-pipe
y-pipe
You guys out there with the 2.8 or other model of engine, do you have an annoying y-pipe that sticks out underneath your car? When I mean sticking out I mean If you went over a speed bump first thing to scrape would be that darn y-pipe. Usually on the passenger side it sits low. On berlinettas I have seen it too. Not sure what other models, But I have it on my 2.8 v6 automatic 84 and it bugs me. Anyone out there know of a solution or an aftermarket y-pipe that eliminates the problem, that is for my specifications or do I just have to suffer?
When i had my flowmaster, the exhaust sat lower and I scraped the cat on EVERYTHING. When i went back to a stock muffler, it stopped scraping. Do you have an aftermarket muffler?

My AP y-pipe is a bit lower than stock; but I've never scraped it on anything... I'll see if I can measure how low it hangs (from the bottom of the fender) tonight for ya.
By the way, if you're missing the rear hanger for the catalytic convertor, the whole y-pipe can "hinge" on the manifold bolts. Your system might be buckled in the middle, and the weight is tilting the y-pipe down. Our y-pipe inlets are only held to each manifold by two bolts, so the y-pipe outlet can "rock" up and down from the floorboards.
