How do I fix my detonation problem ?

How do I fix my detonation problem ?
Is the sound ( that sounds like nuts and bolts rattleing around in a coffee can) Is this sound pieces of my engine or what ? 
Or could I just go with colder plugs and be fine ? Also I dont know if this is normal or not but when I checked my plug wires , in the boots , the end where they connect to the distributor ,the metal crimps are burned whrere they connect to the distributor , not all of the wires , just some of them , is this normal or what ? thanx guys , Wayne

Wayne, go get new plug wire set & install them.
I gave ya the tips in the other answer.
Open you hood at night time, engine running, NO lights, to see your problem.

Is it a constant noise, is it there "just" at idle, or "just" when going up a hill with light throttle, or "just" when cold, or ... ?

Seems like it starts when Im on the freeway doing 80 . I can barley hear it over my stereo , when I turn it down you can hear it good . I think , but not sure , I think I can hear it at regular driving ..but i had two mechanics drive it around ALOT today and they did not hear it . ....Thanx for the help as always guys ...Wayne
