Re: Odd noise when car first starts

Guesses ..

It's some sort of bearing that is giving out due to age. Once it gets moving and warms up, it's ok, for now

Things it could be, let your ears guide you toward the direction

Tensioner pully
Water pump
ac compressor
radiator fan motor
blower motor
power steering pump
Air pump

When it gets worse it will be easier to find. That's the good news

Re: Odd noise when car first starts

You won't have a water pump, so don't run it for very long

Re: Odd noise when car first starts

That will tell you what you need to know.

When you have the belt off, spin each of the bearing by hand to see if they make noise

Re: Odd noise when car first starts

Good elimination work. Next step is to see if it's the radiator fan. Turn off your AC, confirm it's not running, and see if the noise is still there.

Re: Odd noise when car first starts

I know it isn't the Radiator fan, fan is only on when car reaches 105 degrees, and my car isn't equipped with A/C

Im out of ideas, unless the crank or cam is worn and you are getting a grinding until oil hits it.

Re: Odd noise when car first starts

Get under the hood and have someone start the car while you're in a position to localize the sound. Pay attention to the front of the engine, and the starter area. Sometimes it's easier to hear where a noise is coming from, while laying next to the car on the ground.
