I know the car is really rich at idle...

Ok heres where im at. The car I know is (fat) rich at idle. It literly burns my eyes if I lean down next to the exhaust. This ive noticed since I ported/polished the heads and put that Delta 260 cam in it. It runs really rich when cold and still rich when the engine is up to temp.

By the videos i've put on here recently you can see that it does run a hellof alot faster then before. So im woundering how much performance im missing from it having a rich AFR.

Ok I wont get into the details about how i had a megasquirt and now i dont, But i am limited on funds badly but I NEED to tune this car before the spring comes. I know a guy on here looking to see what all he has but I know he has the chip burner and some chips for the 730. Which is the ECU I have. I got the tunerpro and the original bin and x files.

Im looking at getting the burner and chips for a good price. But the Aldl cable and other things...Im hoping that someone can help me there and mabey have a thing or 2 laying arround for sale.

Also the timing is set at 15 base timing on 93 octane and no spark knock.
I tried the 10 base timing but when i turned it up to 15 it pulled alot harder at low rpms.

I dont wana keep playing with it/driving it/ with it running so rich.
Thanks for advice tip and whatnot.

Re: I know the car is really rich at idle...

u have a map based ecm and with the combinaation of ported heads and cam u are pulling less vacum at idle.the ecm sees less vacum and adds in a lil extra fuel, and also the fpr has a lil less vacum so fuel presure is a lil higher then it was before at idle

thats why i prefer the 2.8 maf systems for bolton mods u can get away with alot more before u need to get a tunned chip

thats also were ur really rough idle comes into play,it will smooth out once u get it leaned back out the 260 cam barley has a noticable idle

Ok that makes sense. I does idle rough. Like its got a bigger cam then what it really is. I still wana keep the speed density and the 730 Ecu.

Make sure the fuel pressure regulator is working, not leaking.
Check the fuel pressure & bleed down rate. Do you have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator?
Make sure the map is hooked to manifold vacuum. Measure the value going to the map. 15-17" is close on a 2.8L. Advancing the timing alittle more might help if you have low vacuum.

ok ill will check all that out. I did notice that the car runs better and better the more i advance the timing. All the way up to 18* base timing but i backed it off to 15 even though at 18 there was no spark knock
