Crank Shaft Pulley
Crank Shaft Pulley
I have a 1986 Firebird 2.8 MPFI and I was wondering if I was able to use an underdrive pulley such as the auto specialties or the jet.... ASP says the pulleys are for 88-92, but lists a belt size to be used in 87s for the crank shaft, and crank shaft / alternator combo.... My car has the v-belt set up I believe because there are two belts... one to drive the alternator, and one to drive the power steering pump.
So is the 1986 belt drive set up different from all the other years? Are the pulley interchangeable?

Re: Crank Shaft Pulley
'88 to '92 use a serpentine belt system, '86 will use a V-belt.
You can change the belt system over to a serpentine system, but requires changing the water pump, front cover, oil pan, and some accessory mounting brackets.

Re: Crank Shaft Pulley
would there be a reason why i couldnt be able to use a vbelt pulley for a 86 2.8 fiero? would the belts be the same size? alternator location might be different right? or power steering?
