SES (Check Engine) light, but no codes

My 88 2.8 V6 (T-5 transmission) runs great. But recently it's started turning the SES light on. Now it's on all the time. I'd pull the lamp out, but I have to have the smog **** sniffer test and I bleeve that's one of the things they check for.

So I did a search for this and the only answer I found said that his problem was caused by a bad ECM.

My question is, if I buy a performance chip from Jet or hypertech, will that include the entire ECM or are those chips only add-ons or replacements for a different portion of the EC system?

Thanks,

if the ecm wont even go into diagnostic , sounds like its bad. A performance chip will not include the ecm.

Yes. I can go into diag mode...at least the fan comes on. If by service number you mean 1227302 then, yes, I have it.

I found the ECM in my mailbox today. It was probably delivered yesterday, but I didn't check (my mailbox isn't the most convenient thing to get to...it's half a block away in the wrong direction.)

Thanks for getting it to me so promptly and a a great price.
