there's lots of love here for the V6, but most people feel building one up is a waste of time. just drive it as is, and enjoy it for what it is

Some of us just haven't had much to update in a while...
One more coat of paint (on the engine, not the car) and my roughly 200 HP 3.1/3100 hybrid will be going under the hood of the IROC shortly. And no, I'm not swapping a V8 for a V6 (even though the original engine in the 88 was a 170 HP LO3), I got the car without a powertrain...

Get a 3.4, get the heads ported, get the intake Extrude-Honed, get a cam, get headers, bolt it all together. Done. Want more? Give the 3.4 to charity, buy a 350.

Ohh man, you guys are so right, no one builds up veesixes anymore.
I'm such an idiot, I should just start over and put a piece of s**t carburated 350 in my car so I can make 180 horse like the rest of TGO.

You have two problems:
The first is that on your build thread there is no build. You bought a car and washed it, and then bought and engine. That's not a build, that's what you get done on Saturday before lunch.
The second problem is that this is TGO. No one will think outside the box. Or if they do think outside the box they never follow through and actually build outside the box. Everyone just keeps going back to that same 1950's technology. It's like a security blanket, you know what you get. Nothing crazy ever happens, you don't have to think or solve problems, you just make orders from Summit and put bolts in holes.
My two cents for a kid like you? Throw that 3.1 in front of a T5, pull as much weight out of the car as you can live with, and then start upgrading the suspension. You'll have more fun with it than you would with a straight-line V8 car, and you'll learn how to drive properly as well.
