Hey guys,

just posting this on behalf of a friend as hes having this problem, hes so far set the timing, then done the idle relearn procedure as his battery went flat with the car standing for a month, but it hasnt helped !

He says the car runs really great, nice and smooth etc, it idles fine when in park, but once you stop at a light or junction 9 times out of 10 the cars revs will just keeping coming down and then cut out.

Is there any obvious things to check on it as i dont really know the V6 ones at all, its a 92 bird with the 3.1 V6

Well, it's the same as the speed-density V8s... Check for vacuum leaks. My 2.8 would idle and drive just fine, but when it was hot and I would stop, it would die.

 

Did he check or clean the IAC that's currently in the vehicle. On my 91 Firebird I replaced the IAC and did the relearn before it stopped doing this.

 

i dont think hes touched the IAC no, i will ask, i wasnt sure if it would be that with it idiling no problem, its just when coming to a stop.

 

did he check the fuel pump?? ive had that happen to some customer cars
