electric choke problems

electric choke problems

83 2.8l electric choke problems. rochester varajet ii non electronic carb. i think i may have a choke problem. this morning it was about 45* outside. my car would start and run and miss horribly. i think it was the electronic choke. im not 100% on how it functions but is it something i can ard wire to a toggle when i need it to opperate???

The choke needs to be hooked up to a 12 v 'key on' source of power. Just run power directly to a spot in your fuse box, don't even bother with a toggle switch.

The way it works is picture the choke coil as a spring. When the choke coil is heated, it tightens. Electric chokes use a current to heat itself to a certain temperature and when it reaches that temperature the choke comes off.
