Where to buy a thermostat housing?

I need to buy one cuz mine is REALLY rusted out, this seems to happen to all the metal pipes on my car that having coolant flowing through them. Is there anyways to prevent this by the way? Would painting them be risky or would the paint come off because of the coolant? Anyways, if anyone could provide me with a link or something where I could buy one (preferably not ebay because i dont want to pay 15 bucks for a used housing). Thanks.

If you post a pic of which part you are referring to I may be able to help, pretty sure I know what you are referring to and had to find an alternative myself, just need to see it again to be sure you need the same thing.

Be EXTREMELY carefull installing aluminum thermostat housings! The thermostat and gasket must be seated perfectly or the housing will break. I made my own out of steel. Lucky me, I have a 1 ton lathe and machined the pipe into a bracket with a perfect press fit then welded it.

Re: Where to buy a thermostat housing?

Ive never had a issue with out tstat housings. Ive taken it off many many times. New gasket with some RTV and its golden. Most of the time I just make my own gaskets anyways out of bulk stock.

He said his was really rusted out?? Did they put steel ones in older thirdgens? Or is he meaning that the rust just stuck to the ate up aluminum housing.

FOUR SEASONS Part # 85223, $11.95 at Rock Auto.

Be sure to run some anti-freeze as that provides corrosion protection. Otherwise run some RMI-25

RBob.

Re: Where to buy a thermostat housing?

Classic industries, pick-a-part, rockauto.com, and Napa should all have them.
