Car will not crank, just drove it a hour ago and now nothing.

its done this to me once before, I turn the key and it cranks right up. drive a lil while, turn it off. when I turn the key to turn it on again, fuel pump primes, lights battery etc everythings good, turn the key to crank and nothing happens. the motor doesn't even turn over. could it be the starter? has new battery and alternator since about 2 months, its not them. I tried jumping the starter from the 2 wires on it it spun but didn't kick in.

If you put power to the starter solenoid and the throw out dint move the solenoid is bad the starter would still motor.

So when this is a problem the starter does not engage at all from the key?

If so, make sure the shifter is all the way in park. Also try moving it to neutral. Sometimes the neutral safety switch can move out of adjustment, and cause similar symptoms.

smack the side of the starter with a hammer a few times and hit the key again, brushes could be going bad in the starter.

if it starts after that u know thats the issue and its time for a starter rebuild or new starter

Is there voltage at the starter? Bad ignition switch?

Does it just make a clicking sound when you turn the key? I had a similar issue. my car would just click when id turn the key to start and it turned out to be the neutral safety switch.
