fuel pressure regulator repair

In the context of Camaro fuel-injected V-6's this is an item that I keep pondering.

I found one manual that says the FPR is serviced "with the fuel rail" and warns against attempts to remove or disassemble the FPR itself As in they apparently want you to replace the whole fuel rail if all that is really needed is a fuel pressure regulator. Yeah, I'll just bop down to the dealership and pick one of those up.

Then, do a little googling, and I see that there is one vendor selling the diaphragm/spring assembly, but not the whole valve.

Another thread here mentions taking apart the FPR, and warns about it being held together with "safety-type" torx bits (little tittie in middle of the screw head?).

So, here's my question:
Who here has ACTUALLY REPAIRED a fuel pressure regulator on a third-gen Camaro fuel-injected V-6, and how did you play it?

Re: fuel pressure regulator repair

if u diont have the saftey u use a punch to knock down the nipple in the center of the torx head then use a regular torx bit to remove them

the diaphram/spring is the entire assembly u just reuse the old black cap, or buy the adjustable regulator from bbk/edlelbrock/southbay etc

Re: fuel pressure regulator repair

I got the tool ( safety torx bit) from auto zone for under $20.
But put new spring and diaphragm with " the penny trick" pretty easy. But unless you're magic...the upper intake has to come off.

u stick a penny , or nickle above the spring between the spring and regulator cap, it bumps up the base fuel presure a few psi.

i dont recomend this on a stock v6 engine as its actually already tuned fairly rich from the factory. if u have ported heads/intake/headers it will help a lil bit
