If you go speed density and get rid of the MAF sensor system. Im not as good at maf since my cars speed density and ive tuned it from stock to what it is now so its pretty easy for me to do.

the 7730 ecm is generaly ment for a speed density car. So you'll wire in the stock gm 1 bar map sensor then. And then ditch the MAF sensor. There some good wiring diagrams so that you do it correctly. Ill have to link them to ya. There on gearhead-efi.com. Best tuning website i feel that is out there.

Alright sounds good. Im trying to keep up with all this, i don't want to mess anything up when i do the ecm swap, so all this information is very helpful.

It looks like it's no longer on gmtuners.com, but I have the Fiero ECM-7730 repinning guide on my computer; I could PM it to you if you want. The Fiero ECM's pinouts are VERY similar to the 87 Camaro 2.8 ECM with the exception of some emissions stuff and the MAP sensor stuff. You could use it for the majority of the repinning and then just figure out the few remaining wires using pinouts for both ECMs.

I've attached two files. The first one is for a distributor, the second is for converting to DIS.

I have the faith in myself to do all the re-pining, but would all this transfer exactly to my old camaro harness since the diagram is for the fiero?

The Fiero ECM uses the same connectors and has a very similar pinout. I've successfully used this guide in a 93 Sonoma as well (again, the pinout had a few differences, but for the most part the guide was still applicable.

Well this is my first time doing anything like this so im trying to have everything near perfect on the pinouts so i don't screw my whole car up and not be able to fix it on my own. But the charts do seem rather simple to a novice like myself. Could you give a rough estimate of how long it would take to do the ecm swap?

why not just go to the junkyard and find a 90-92 v6 car and pull the entire harness out of it

Re: 87 camaro 2.8 5spd to 3.4
if only you knew how hard it is to find maro' parts around here. What would be a reasonable prove for one? I might just try Ebay. And i could go get the other end of the harness they cut off of my 3.4 sfi engine i bought for the swap, but its to my understanding that its not tuneable?

I was told the obd1.5 was junk and that id be better off going the mpfi route than the sfi complete swap

Tunercats just released tuning software for the 3.4 SFI recently so it's tunable. Probably a bit cheaper to tune as well since you just need a cable. However if you're going boosted a 7730 is hard to beat.

Re: 87 camaro 2.8 5spd to 3.4
Ill be turboing it in about 6 months but id like to already have a better ecm and new sensors before i put the turbo on with my taxes and saved up money. Iv got a good dd right now im not crunched for time exactly. But when i get paid at the first of the month and buy gaskets, injectors, an a few odd and end things and hopefully have this 3.4 block in and driveable.

Sorry i haven't posted in a while guys, iv hit a real slow down.. Some dirty POS stole my tool box right off my car port. Must've scoped me out, cause they brought bolt cutters and cut the chain that was around the box itself.

Re: 87 camaro 2.8 5spd to 3.4
The 3.4 SFI PCM (from a 4th gen) could be modified to work with boost, but there's WAY more support for boost with a 7730. If you hack a bin for the 4th gen PCM to work with a 2-bar MAP, you will lose VE and spark table resolution, and will probably have a bunch of driveability problems to sort out becuase it won't be a proper 2-bar tune. That being said, you only need an ALDL cable and WinFlash ($20) to tune it, vs an ALDL cable, a memcal adapter ($30 + shipping or something) and a chip burner ($40+) or emulator ($200) for a 7730. It IS much nicer tuning with an emulator vs. flashing the 4th gen PCM, but I'd prefer flashing over chip burning any day.
