Alternator issues
Alternator issues
I'm hoping someone might be able to help me. I have an 86 v6 camaro 5spd. The engine was replaced by the p.o with a 3.4l v6 out of a 94 camaro. The issue I'm having is that my car seems to be eating alternators. I've done a few modifications(upgraded headlights, radio) and I think that the current pull at idle is just to much for the stock alternator to handle. The radiator fan is grounded so it runs continually(apparently the sensor was a different design on the 3.4 and not compatible) So with that, headlights, and the heater blower running it seems to be taxing the alternator to much. I've replaced it several times with remans from advanced, but the problem keeps reoccuring. I think the stock one they sell is a 78 amp one. What I'm wondering is if I could get a higher output alternator(maybe off a v8?) that would help. At idle the alternator starts squealing, once I cut off a few accessories it will stop, and it doesn't squeal once the motors above 1200 rpms. So it seems to me output at idle just isn't enough to handle the demands of the system. Does anyone know if one from a v8 would fit, and would it have higher output? I'd like to get one out of the junkyard if possible, I've spent alot in parts in the past few months and its starting to take a toll on my wallet. Thanks for any help

Re: Alternator issues
I got the 108 AMP upgrade alt form autozone long time ago with limetime warranty, works like a charm with more power on system. only had to spin the back case for aligment.
