Someone Help!?
Ookay, i just bought my 91 camaro. 3.1 v6. Its idling at 7000. Key off its at zero. I'm confused whether its cluster problems? Speedo does not move eith but everything else works. Id take any advice.
I might be a noob on here but this isn't my first time on here :P

Make sure the cluster is fully seated in the dash. My camaro has a different cluster then yours afaik, but i think how they attach is similar.

Re: Someone Help!?
The cluster has contacts in the back that can get warn or get corroded over time. You may just have to take the cluster off and clean the contacts.

It seems like its at 7000. Its pretty loud. idk how to adjust the idle just to see if it goes down or not. the screw on the throttle it came with no head. so idk how to turn it.

Re: Someone Help!?
Cant be 7k rpms. Unless some got into the ecm and tuned it. That tach is probly 500 to 1000 rpm off at 5k rpm. They are really inaccurate there is a few write ups oon how to fix them.
That screw your talking about can adjust the throttle blade and that will either make the iac upset or happy..lol. the only way you will get massive 4k and up high rpms is if the throttle blade is literly half open

It could be a bunch of stuff if the car is actually idling that high. Perhaps a gigantic vaccum leak, a fully open IAC. Those are just guesses though. You need to find out if its the cluster or not. Anybody you know have an odb1 plugin computer that can tell you the actual rpms at idle?

Re: Someone Help!?
if it was idling that high he would never be able to put the car in gear
it would eaither break the rear end driveshaft or trans
not to mention at that high of an idle from a dead cold start would destroy every bearing in the engine

True, it was just unclear whether or not the car was actually idling that high.

Re: Someone Help!?
Iac is easy to check. With car running just unplug the connector.
Also screwy grounds can cause all sorts of gauge problem and other electrical snafus.
