Hi there, my brother just got for free a 3.4 93 Firebird(I know this isnīt a thirdgen, but I thought maybe someone could help with this), the car has ABSOLUTELY NO POWER!, I mean, the car wonīt even go over the sidewalk into the driveway, my brothe gave it about half throttle and the car just didnīt jump the sidewalk, we had to push the car inside his garage.

He just installed a set of new plugs and cables and the car still wonīt accelerate, He knew this car would not have the torque of his 400 CID Trans Am, but this is ridiculous!.

I told him to check the coilpacks for spark We found out the car is running on 4 cylinders, the 2/5 Coilpack isnīt working, we switched the coilpack with the 6/3 coilpack and still had cylinders 2 and 5 dead.

Can this be the Ignition Control Module, or can the camshaft sensor cause this?

The car has only 90k miles and starts right away, no smoke, but NO POWER!.

BTW, itīs got a 700R4 trans.

Any ideas?

 

manual or auto? its most likely not the engine itself. how's the trans?

Also the cam position sensor has nothing to do with the ignition system. It is only used for the SFI (Sequential Fuel Injection) portion of the EFI.

 

i've lost a coilpack before, that alone shouldn't cause that complete lack of power.... i've even lost 2 of the 4 cylinders on a cavalier 2.2 and was still able to hit 40MPH.... eventually.


i think you'll find other issues as well after the ICM replacement, like a plugged cat or junked trans.

 

There's something very wrong if it's that lacking of power. Check the compression.
I had similar troubles moving a 4cyl car with a warped head. It started okay but only managed about 0.5hp if I was really nice to it.

 

You need to start with repairing known problems before speculating on what else could be wrong.

 

Thanks for the input, I checked the driveline and found thereīs a bent axle on the car, the right tire BARELY can be turned, my brother already removed the axle and we are looking for a replacement, havenīt had time to try another ICM yet.

We REALLY need to run a compression test.
