so my timing has been slipping retarded about 10-30 degrees under a decent load like goin up a hill at low speeds flooring it, even reving passed 5k or so rpms. Slipping more now then ever now, I'm hearing ticking noises only when I'm under the hood near the 3 and 5 cylinder plugs, can't pinpoint it anymore then that. and the clanking sounds like a wrench hitting bike wheel spokes, Metal on metal. brand new timing chain and gears, new dizzy cap rotor full tune up, been a problem for awhile but now getting much worse. Any Thoughts?
Ticking is probably the infamous collapsed lifter tick. Definitely too quiet to be a bent rod / cracked piston. But idles very rough usually until it warms or I drive it around the block and it runs better.

Are you datalogging the car on a laptop? I only ask because you say the timing is being retarded while driving. If its being retarded from knock then it can be real or false. False KR is caused by a ton of things and can be from rattling on the engine not related to detination or something as dumb as a socket left somewhere that is rattling...
Depending on your MAP Vs RPM cell in the spark advance table, the timing can range from 15*btdc or so to 35* btdc or so which is normal.
Also if you are datalogging it and seeing the timing going way under what its suppose to be, look for Knock retard(although IIRC the stock ecm tune only retards it so much....10 degrees or so but its been awhile so it may be more or less).
What fuel injectors did you get? Bosch's can be loud sometimes. I know mine always have been.

Okay, lol I'm back, not dataloging but when I am driving the timing slips sounds like the exhaust is clogged I get no power brakes and won't drive over 30mph when floored. The. I have to advance timing in order to get her running again usually 10-20 degrees. Also just oem refurbished injectors, the noise went away though so I think it's something other then the camshaft now. Originally a bad lifter means you need a new camshaft due to design lol.
Fixed the slipped timing, then It wouldn't start, no spark, replaced my brand new ignition coil again, didn't fix it, replaced my also brand new ignition module fixed for a quarter mile the. Died again with same no spark issue, work when engine cooled down, sounds like I got a second bad module or my pick up coil in the dist is throwin the module off. Gunna replace the dist and go from there tomorrow, thank you for replying to my post I greatly thank you all

Re: 91 camaro rs 3.1 Possible worn camshaft
Timing isn't slipping but now when it runs it keeps misfiring just randomly dropping in rpms, it's not my egr because that is completely blocked, just replaced my map sensor today waste of money since it didn't do anything even when in neutral if I rev a bit it'll drop as my foot is on the pedal slowly increasing rpms, at 1500, then again at 2000 I have no idea what it could be,it throws a code 33 after driving a mile or so, which is low vaccum but my vac check came out fine. Any ideas? Thoughts?

Just curious but what was the vacuum readings? Does the idle smooth out at all?
