Seriously?? -- Remove the Inner Valve Spring

And yet another possible roadblock to getting this engine finally running. The machine shop put dual springs on the valves when they did them saying that was the best way to go.. No mention about break in... I just read that you are supposed to remove the inner spring during break in... I put in a Comp Cams 252H... Is it really necessary on this engine to break in without the inner spring? I used plenty of assembly lube and break in oil during assembly...

Re: Seriously?? -- Remove the Inner Valve Spring

i highly doubt u have dual springs, what u more then likley have is a single spring with an inner damper, use good oil and some oil additive made for cam breakin and u will be fine.

just rember to vary rpms for the first 20-30 mins

edit

i have high presure dual springs on my iroc with a flat tappet cam i left the inners in and it broke in just fine

Does the inner spring look like a smaller version of the outer spring, or is it more like a flat strip that just coils around the inside of the spring? That would be a damper. I would bet that is what you have, pics would help though.

Yup, I know about the damper. But, I am in Colorado and my car is in Washington so I can't look. Won't be there until this coming Friday the 19th. I have been concerned because the shop mentioned putting dual springs in it. Won't know until I get there and go to talk to the shop since it is assembled and within an hour or two of starting it..
