91 3.1 5 speed camaro cant be fixed

hello all, i am stumped with this car, i have replaced everything on this car and i still cant set the timing right, when i set the timing it all lines up, 10 degree before tdc with the wire unhooked, every sensor and hose is new, the car has 320xxx miles. could it really be the camshaft? has anyone had this many miles on v6? The sensors were replaced at 319xxx miles, they were all orignal =, replaced ecm 3 times now, so could it be timing chain or cam?? motor doesnt leak a drop of oil or a drop of coolant

So what's the issue?

Are you saying that you have a timing issue?

You say that the timing gets sets as it should be when you go through the procedure, so I don't understand what your issue is.

Re: 91 3.1 5 speed camaro cant be fixed

after i get the timing set and go for a test drive it idles good, when i put it in gear it stumbles and pops and wont do more than 5mph in first or second gear. it looses power after 1500 rpm but sounds good when in nutral and revs up fine to 4000 rpm

Have you checked fuel pressure? Have you check for a clogged catalytic converter?

But have you checked the pressure? Just because those parts happen to be new does not mean they are good.

Have the injectors ever been replaced with non-Multec units? If not that is the first thing I would do.

I had a problem similar to yours on my old 2.8 fiero and my balancer had slipped making it impossible to time right. Also make sure it's 10* on the compression stroke and not exhaust stroke.

Re: 91 3.1 5 speed camaro cant be fixed

I had a problem where my timing wouldn't stick. I replaced most of the distributor parts and it didn't help. After more investigation, I found that the pole piece was loose and would slip, along with the timing. I just bought a new distributor assembly and it fixed it up good.

Hapenned to me on my five speeder, the same time it had a coolant sensor issue, replaced the sensor all fine now, not sure what happened really though. Have you tested the coil?

RBob.
Its most likely this. The OEM Multec injectors just fall apart.

Block off the EGR at the throttle body with a thin metal plate just to make sure it's not an issue.

Re: 91 3.1 5 speed camaro cant be fixed

I don't see the timing chain on your list. Do you know when the last time it was replaced? I wonder if it could be giving you issues if it is still stock after 320,XXX?

Re: 91 3.1 5 speed camaro cant be fixed

Why would you want to bypass the FPR?

You'd get very low fuel pressure, or possibly none at all.

Also bypassing anything is not a repair, it's a hack at best, and won't usually help to diganose what ever problem you are having.
