IAC Valve location 2.8l 1984

Trying to trouble shoot a erratic idle on my sons 84 2.8l. Only owned it around 2-3 months, I know very little about its history. What I have done so far is new fuel pump, air filter, PCV valve, changed oil and filter, seafoam through the brake booster and into gas tank.

The issue I am having is a slightly surging idle at stand still and when I drive it, it stumbles and sometimes stalls when slowing down in corners or at junctions.

Was planning on cleaning the IAC, but so far have been unable to locate it? Anyone point me in the right direction and give me some more things to check to try and fix the issue? Thanks

The '84 is carbretted and therefore does not have an IAC.

id rebuild the carb, those carbs had a history of sunken floats. [ floats get heavy with gas with time, then one day fills the enigne with gas ]

I do plan on rebuilding the carbs at some point in the near future, could the symptoms I am having also be an issue with the Cat? I was getting a loot of 'soot' out of the exhaust at one point, which seems to have stopped, but not getting much grunt from the engine either, I thought it must be fuel delivery issue but could it be a combo of that plus the exhaust?

if its original, it don't even work right anymore, those tiny passage ways are super easy to clogg.

if your cheap, lazy or just odn't feel like it, take a metal hole saw and drill a quarter size+ hole just before the cat that you can weld up later if need be.

enignes are just simple air pumps, an restriction on intake or exhaust slows it down.
