It depends on how much of a "rebuild" you are talking about here. Do you mean all the machine work, or just a rering or regasket? A legit rebuild would likely be a bit too much $$ to be worth it. Also, what year is the engine? 82-84 had the smaller heads and smaller crank. You would be better off, at minimum, to get an 85+. The best option would be to get a 3.4 long block as your starter and build from there.

Dont know what year but all i was needing to replace was pistons rods rockers and all gaskets. The block is in great condition just to many miles on the car tho i think over 400 thousand

If you're replacing pistons, and with high mileage, you're probably going to need the block bored. When you say rods, do you mean push or connecting? Connecting rods are only done if there's something wrong with them.
Having recently had block work done, you can plan on a good $300-500 just at the machine shop for the block. Heads are going to need to be gone through as well.... May wanna price shop and do some homework first. I'd go 3.4, cheaper and lots more power.

Your trans will bolt right up to a 3.4, since externally they are almost identical. Have you read through any of the other threads/stickies on here about swapping a 3.4? All of this is covered in great detail. It may take some time, but you should really read through all of it and get a list together. I wrote out on paper, a column with 2.8, and a column with 3.4. I put a list together of parts that I would need from each one to assemble the engine. It makes it a lot easier.
Your mileage reads 44537.8. The last digit (8) is in tenths of a mile.

Re: rebuilding a 2.8 v6
Will my trans bolt up to the 3.4 and what all will i need to get for it if i decide to go with that motor? Also the milage on my car reads 445378 but where the 8 is located the numbers rotates. So does it read over 400 thousand miles on the car or 44 thousand miles on it? Im thinking its over 400 thousand on it tho can help me out with both question i would really appreciate it.
