84 Z28 & 85 Iroc

correct me if im wrong, but didnt the 84 Z28 and the 85 IROC ALL!!! come with V8 or for some reason were there some with V6

the reason is some guy came in the store we're my g/f works and told her that theres an 85 IROC w/ a V6 in perfect condition body wise for $350 and the motor is knocking, but some where it switched to being an 84 and i know that they didn't make an IROC in 84, but we know the guy who has the car and my g/f is supposed to stop by and look at it to day, just wanted to hear some people opinions on this.

thanks,
jonathan

If the interior is in decent shape i'd jump on it... a head job, carb rebuild, and new gaskets will (hopefully) give you a nice ride for about a grand!!!

Tell him you'll help him for $100.
NOT KIDDING.
YOU ARE DOING HIM A FAVOR REMOVING A CAR WITH NO HOOD FROM HIS PROPERTY.
I paid $300 for my 1985 2.8, overheating, abnged grill fender, back bumper, stuck open headlight
BUT
New cc, fresh emission testing & annual tag fee paid, rebuilt tranny, ok engine.
Discovered I had a Y99, F41 w/3:42 axle & Trans Am Wheels, stock.
1984 is a dog, I passed MANY in the yard last rainy Friday.
Sorry, but, true. Hey I own a 1985 Carb S-10 Blazer & it needed lots tricks to start to respond & kick it heels. I did not get that truck with bad heads or missing hood.
Only thing that car is good for is removing $100 from your pocket & you converting it to a V-8/auto.

Beyond that, later the project.
PS, It cost me $400 to have my S-10 carb rebuilt once. Add your costs from there.

Dont waste your time with it, if a six is really what oyu want, get an MPFI six, I had botha carb and a MPFI six, both were horrifically slow but the carb was just a slug, felt like I was driving a pinto. At least The MPFI six has portential, or morso then your gonna get out of that thing. Its winter time, RWD cars are dirt cheap right now. You could get a much better car for a few hundred more. My buddies and I have stripped five thirdgens, all were bought for $800 or less, many were TPi and most had t tops and just needed some paint. just my opinion, not putting down the six in a thirdgen, its a potent little thing and i used to think it was the **** when I had it , but then I swapped ina TB motor with TPI and well, it has a shiznit load of torque over my six, especially the 2.8 carb. I hope no one takes offense, just saying , if you have a 2.8 carb you should take it out of your car and put a .45 to its head and put that damn thing out of its suffering.

I just re-read your original post... let it go to the scrapheap. If the motor's knocking (I missed that part 1st time around) I wouldn't bother. I bought an '83 for $300 with a bad knock three years ago and am just now finishing it up. Granted, it was my first engine swap (my uncle gave me the 2.8 out of his s-10) and my uncle's motor was a POS that probably needed more work than the original. But it (the motor) has been out three times to fix prior mistakes. All in all it has been a HUGE effort to finish this project and I doubt I'll recover all of the $$ I invested in it. I know I'll recover some and the rest I can justify by saying its my hobby (which it is). Unless you have removed/serviced these motors before (which if you did you would know how much of a pain they are), I wouldn't bother with it. Sorry about misleading you before
