Alternator issue

My alternator finally crapped out on me. No tags on the unit itself except a little sticker that says reman Delco. I have AC and defrost so I'm assuming it's the 78amp. Problem is she's my daily and they are special orders and sell for 130 dollars. I would rather upgrade since my auido is growing. I was thinking about putting in one from a 5.0. V belt 94-99 amp. Direct swap? Any special modifications. I read somewhere the back plug in orientation is a little different but shouldn't be a problem. Is that true?

Re: Alternator issue

Not sure off the top of my head, but one sure way to find out is go to the parts store and compare them side by side. Then you will know for sure. If it was a newer serp belt set up I would know you can't, but being an older V-belt alt, I can't say one way or the other.

Well the specs are the same size wise. Same bolt pattern same belt requirements. Only difference is the orientation on the back. Different clock? I read it's for the clearance. Someone else here posted about putting a v6 alt on his v8. And it worked fine. So I'm assuming it's works both ways.

Re: Alternator issue

Clock it then, pull the 3(?) bolts, spin the body and put it back together so it sits correctly.
